The new Hot Rod mag just arrived bringing the news that Dave Deal passed on Oct 14, at his home in Vista, Ca, north of San Diego. I hadn't heard this so, obviously, if it was posted here I missed it. HR stated that "Big Deal" did 20 kits for Revell in the Caricature heyday. I wasn't aware of that many. I think I've built 6 or 7 of them over the years and it's good to see them being re-released.

I also didn't know that he was largely responsible for the look of the "actors" in Disney's Cars and its upcoming sequal.

Yeah Sam, he passed last year, it was in one of these "Electrmags" I get. They ran a real nice story on him. I just got my Hot Rod too an saw the article your refering to. We ain't gettin any younger,Bro. RIP"BIG"Deal.

Dave Deal's artwork was seen in many places. Hedesigned the ArmorAll Viking logo and did lots of illustrations for MG Mitten, a sports-car accessory retailer in Pasadena, CA.

I met Dave at an event at the Petersen Museum a few years back. He acted surprised that I recognized who he was and was a very nice, gracious person. I was saddened to hear of his passing.

I love Deal's work, icredible an creative and imaginative. Respect him as an artist, writer, and a racer. I liked his article in Grassroots, I forget the year, I think 2004....

He still holds and will forever hold the record for the original Baja 1000 Route in the Baja Bug he designed.

Atlantis now has all those Deal's wheel's molds and as of right now they have no planes to reissue the kits , be may in the future.  they told me that the Balloon tire mold is in China .
