Looks to me like it wouldn't be a stretch to convert a '66 Impala to an acceptable Caprice by using the roof of a '70 Monte. No?

Of course, the devil is always in the details.

Shape looks close, although it would need a stretch the way it looks to fit the Impala.

The C-pillar would need some work too.

The C-pillar looks thinner, at the top especially, on the Caprice, and less slanted at the rear.

Looks doable, but it would still require some considerable work.

I agree with Wade on the roof shape. The forward edge of the C Pillar would have to be changed along with the back side of the C Pillar. This maybe the most plausible if you are comfortable with those roof mods. Another thought would be to check around some of the resin body suppliers. I can't remember who, but I do recall at least one that used to offer a body with all the work done and in the picture it did look good.

I went and busted out the calipers on this because you piqued my curiosity. The Monte roof is about 1/4 inch too narrow and the rear window shape isn't even close. I think a better option is the roof from the AMT 70 Impala. It's only about 1.5 millimeters narrower than the Revell roof and it has the correct C pillar shape. You'll need to cut the rear window frame out of the 66 roof and shorten it and graft it on to the 70 roof. Overall it seems pretty do-able.

Here's the 70 Impala for comparison.
