Radretireddad Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Here are my two oldest survivors dusted off and shined up a bit. The Revell Ford Escort XR3 was bought when new and built in my dorm room when I was in the Air Force. The Hasegawa Porsche 944 turbo with was bought and built just before my wife and I began dating. I was into sports and GT cars because I was crewing a formula Ford in the SCCA on weekends for my employer at the time. I blame the oddball color combo on the carpeting that came in the kit. These two now sit out among the rest of my current builds as a peek into my modeling roots. 3

As for the color on the Corvette, I still have my issue of Road and Track with that very color - - - it was all the rage back then I have the same book. I got it when it first came out. It was the reason for my love for early C4 Corvettes.
Big Messer Posted October 1 Posted October 1 My oldest surviving build. I glued the roof to the rest of the body, filled the gap and brush-painted it. THEN gluing the rear glass was a real pain... Done sometime around early 70's. 5
cartpix Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Monogram 'Vette Street Machine from 1986. It's painted with Testors Model Masters spray (my last paint job before I bought an airbrush), AMT 65 Riviera wire wheels, & a small block engine swap. The chrome bumpers turned black, a few bunch of years ago, so I took them off. 2
Quiet Eric Posted Sunday at 04:45 AM Posted Sunday at 04:45 AM AMT '62 Bel Air built when I was still in my teens. Very slight wedge chop, LT1 engine/trans from the Beatnik Bandit II kit, not sure what Corvette the IRS came from. Revell '32 wheeels and tires. '64 GTO hood scoops and tailpipes. 2
2doors3pedals Posted Sunday at 07:12 PM Posted Sunday at 07:12 PM The dark green AMT Model A was originally built in '62 or '63 with help from my uncle. He impressed me by cutting out the left side door and hingeing it with electrician's tape. Sometime in the 70's the street rod movement took off and I rebuilt the Ford using Testors spray paint and chrome wheels. It had been disassembled and spread out among parts boxes for ever until last year when I got to feeling nostalgic and reassembled the surviving parts. I then thought it would be fun to try to recreate the hot rod version in it's original form, using more current AMT parts. The result is is the orange one in the photo. The kid in the old photo is me, age 12 or 13, proudly posing with the original orange model and a'32 roadster. I'm collecting parts to recreate the 32 with the intention of remaking the photo 52 or 53 years later. 4
BKIN10SECS Posted Sunday at 11:01 PM Posted Sunday at 11:01 PM A few done before this but this is my oldest survivor. The year was 1993-94, a 1962 Johan Plymouth Fury. 4

Do not feel bad about that meechum....I think there are many of us that left for what ever reason but thankfully have returned. To be honest with you I never really left but didnt get to the table much. 3D printing has rekindled the fire for me and I am having more fun then ever.

Oh back then I wasn't even remotely secure in who I was and yeah... I am glad I have returned, and a resin printer is on my wishlist. So many things now available that keeps my fire stoked hot for building.
THarrison351 Posted Monday at 02:56 AM Posted Monday at 02:56 AM Technically this one sort of is. The chassis is Bill Elliott's Melling T-Bird, hence the red window net. Around 1983-84 This is the chassis for the Wrangler car (Yellow drive shaft and pumpkin) and the repainted body of Bill Elliott's car. I wanted to do Cale's Hardee's car and his chassis was orange. I bought a Wrangler car to build the Hardee's car. The Elliott car was a disappointment when I finished it, so that's why the repaint and chassis swaps. All of this was around 1985. I did build another Elliott car to replace the repainted one much later. I had more older models, but they haven't survived 3
gtx6970 Posted Tuesday at 06:40 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:40 PM (edited) Another one from the early 80s timeframe I think All Johan kit build I have a few of these Johan kits and plan/want to do another one someday . Only hopefully It will turn out much better I will not take this one apart for any reason Im actually quite surprised it has survived all these years intact. After multiple moves including one across country move Edited Tuesday at 06:42 PM by gtx6970 2
Geno Posted Wednesday at 03:25 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:25 PM Done about 20 years ago. A quick build for a local show and the one that got me back into modeling after being out for many years.😊 2
