I was able to get the run out of the hood, but I burned through the trunk lid trying to get the run and trash out of the clear. Fingers crossed I can get a good color match when I respray it. ?

Aw man that sucks! Good luck.

It is the VCG resin shifter, as is the C4 automatic transmission. :)

Looks  great.  There are differences between 65-66 and the 71-73 ones but the VCG one looks a heck of a lot better than what I could scratch build.  Perhaps VCG will consider printing the 71-73 ones for the new Revell Mach1 kit.

Yeah, I scratch built the one in my 1966 Mustang Convertible build. BIG difference.

Great WIP thread. You are the king of 1st gen Mustang conversions. Round 2 should follow your lead and produce a proper 65/66 1/25 Mustang kit and while they are at it a 67/68 Notchback.

Funny you say that. I did just get a resin transkit for a 1968 Mustang California Special for the Revell 1968 GT. I had one in the past in Lime Gold. Going to be a part of the "One's that got away" series. :)

I was able to polish the body and hood and get it looking pretty good. I also did the panel lining for the rocker panels and front vents. I repainted the trunk lid and I think I got a decent color match but will know better after I can touch it.

Thank you. It's hours of work to get it smooth, but I hate orange peel. I see lots of scale cars beautifully detailed watching channels on youTube, just to be let down by a rough paint job. I have shown in MCA concours driven, and I am willing to take the point loss for having a too smooth of finish. :D

Yeah I totally agree with the guys on youtube. Have you ever watched this guy called a4 garage? He's doing a 66 mustang 2+2 fastback. The dude is extremely talented. I can't wait to see your car when you finish it!

Yes, he is amazing. He only releases a new video every other month or so, but I wait with bated breath for the next one. There are a couple of great builders out there I watch and get ideas from.
These are a coupe favorites:
MR. LIN'S SCALE MODELING - YouTube
Kenji's Plastic Models - YouTube
A4 Garage - YouTube

This is the guy I learned from to ALWAYS do a white glue mockup before assembly. Stands even more true since I do so much kit bashing and scratch building:
Scale Model Experiment - YouTube

Oh yes that guy is an inspiration. As you said I'm always on the edge of my chair for the next video. I also need to start doing white glue mockup.

The trunk lid repaint color match came out ok. Got detail work on the engine done and installed into the chassis. Including making sure the correct firing order. Installed the LED wiring harness and sealed areas I don’t want light to leak. One circuit for interior lights only, other for taillights, headlights and gauges. Almost time to mate the chassis and body.

I was printing my own but these are from a decal set I found on eBay. They were listed as interior decals.

Just got the chassis and body joined. I ran into issues with the LED wiring getting in the way but got through it. Finished connecting the LED lights. On the down hill trek now, though the detailing and photo etch parts can be a lot of work to get right.IMG_3682.thumb.jpeg.93ef52e499613ad2b6e8af877238e4f8.jpegIMG_3685.thumb.jpeg.3535027bde331b36ea1243ba1b86e981.jpegIMG_3687.thumb.jpeg.4e8d59777b2dc0f8876cefb2ce29c2b8.jpegIMG_3677.thumb.jpeg.41d470fdd6b958ba85f19721bec5ddc6.jpegIMG_3678.thumb.jpeg.c3e206a6cac3e716e081035ca23a4578.jpegIMG_3692.thumb.jpeg.856c8589416be2e0875e31ce6f13d738.jpegIMG_3689.thumb.jpeg.a9ff4a7fc4241265b487669a89355d37.jpegIMG_3690.thumb.jpeg.87c31ba82adb79104b6e961800ad2635.jpegIMG_3691.thumb.jpeg.1f9eaa6188dbbca1a776458785ff5e8e.jpeg
