Scott Eriksen Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 (edited) I got this R/T a few years ago on Ebay ,,took it apart, fixed pass side broken A pillar and vent frame (I did not take pics,,was before I joined MCM) . I painted the body a few months ago with MCW F8 Green enamel and I'm getting back to it now between my big truck builds.Yesterday I shot it with clear ,just took it out of the dehydrator .I'm using the original kits interior tub (after careful removal of 40 plus year old blobs of Testors glue.I'm using the rest of the interior parts out of the re-issued 68 R/T vert (I was really disappointed with this kit as far as the chassis, engine ,,etc. ) I'm using a donor AMT 69 GTX kit for the chassis and other bits. The 440 was from the parts bin but I'm using one of Fireball Model Works great looking Carter AVS carbs,,,super detail on his stuff! .Everything is de-chromed and I'll refinish with Alclad ,including the Magnum 500 Road wheels . The only thing I have to come up with is a set of F70-14 Redlines . Here's some pics Edited January 25, 2024 by Scott Eriksen 11
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Looks great! How did you remove the old glue? I've got a kit that was glued in 1973-ish. 1
Carmak Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Very cool resto! Does the windshield from the new tool 68 Coronet convertible fit the original 69 MPC body? 1

I first soaked the body in Superclean for about a week to strip the paint ,,,,,,then careful use of a Dremel and Xacto knife ,,, the interior tub had the worst blobs from a roll cage glued in ,,Dremel took care of that,,and the floor pan will be flocked for carpet anyway 1

Scott Eriksen Posted January 25, 2024 Author Posted January 25, 2024 ................starting Bare Metal,,painted tail light trim panel, painted lower K-frame, installed brass rod to simulate horizontal grill bars-the grill will be shot with Alclad and the grill bars blacked out 4
Scott Eriksen Posted January 25, 2024 Author Posted January 25, 2024 Here's a pic of my old R/T ,,,,did the resto myself other than paint ,originally an F8 Green car ,I replaced the stock Power Bulge hood with a Ramcharger hood from a wrecked 69 Superbee ,the 440 came out of a 67 Chrysler ,I rebuilt it adding a Mopar Performance cam and a Six Pack setup ...........sold the car 12 years ago ? 5

I wish I had kept it,,,,,but I said that when I sold my 68 GTX and 72 Duster 340 too ..... your Charger looks like a solid car,,hang in there,,the fun is in the building and doing ! I was white knuckles all the time driving my R/T around Jersey with all the freakin' idiots out there ,,, after 14 years of doing shows and taking it to the track I sold it after I got an offer I couldn't refuse 1

Scott Eriksen Posted January 26, 2024 Author Posted January 26, 2024 ..............shot some Alclad today,,finished the Bare Metal,, painted some odds and ends,,started engine assembly and wiring .I was going to use the side glass from the GTX but I would have to cut too much out of the interior tub ,so I'll leave them out,,the rear window and windshield fit perfect,,,flocked the inside of the roof for headliner and interior tub floor 4
Scott Eriksen Posted January 26, 2024 Author Posted January 26, 2024 .................got some AMT Redlines on the way from Hobbylinc 1
Moparman18064 Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Growing up in that era, I really disliked all the green cars, there were just so many. I even owned several green Challengers, but this looks awesome. 1

My 68 GTX was GG1 Green, green vinyl top and green interior ,,,with green stripes ...my 69 Coronet was painted 1970 Lemon Twist but was an original F8 Green car ,my 72 340 Duster was Chestnut Brown . Green was the "in" color back then .....didn't you have an Avocado toilet/sink /bathtub and tile in your house ??? lol! ? 1 1
