mrmike Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 (edited) After viewing someone else's '69 GTX, I decided to pull out mine which I had started a couple of years ago and never finished it. I went to clearcoat the model and I forgot that the paint used was MCW Enamel and not MCW Lacquer which was what I have been using for years. Since this was a gift from a model club friend, I realized my mistake, but the damage was done. I have a little paint left and maybe it will be enough to finish off my GTX. espo Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Looks great until the paint issues came up. Been there and done that to many times.
bill-e-boy Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 That looks like a nice sunburnt survivor car
mrmike Posted February 16, 2024 Author Posted February 16, 2024 Thanks David and Bill! I have to find my container of used paint and see if I have enough. Someone elsewhere suggested and weathering the model and making it look sunburnt.
mrmike Posted April 14, 2024 Author Posted April 14, 2024 I had fired up the paintbooth and was in the process of shooting parts and pieces for other projects and I happened to think of this one and out it came with the remaining paint that I had and shot the roof and trunk lid. It came out rather well with what I had left. 1
mrmike Posted May 16, 2024 Author Posted May 16, 2024 I repainted the GTX with a different color since I didn't have enough paint left over from the previous paint job. Looks better than the first paint job! Now to repaint the rest of the cowl and the engine compartment. 3
mrmike Posted May 17, 2024 Author Posted May 17, 2024 Thanks Topher! I'll do some touchups and then it will be time for clearcoat. 1
mrmike Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Thanks Carl! It figures! After all of the issues with paint, this GTX is fighting me! I have polished the body and hood and trying to assemble the car, but parts keep on falling off. Time to walk away from this! 1
mrmike Posted May 22, 2024 Author Posted May 22, 2024 I just finished adding some more chrome parts to the GTX. The rear bumper, right rear taillight and the exhaust tips. Next is the side view mirrors and touchups and some cleaning of the model then it is ready for the model shelf.
slusher Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 it’s always best to walk away, I do it before i ever get frustrated…
mrmike Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 Well, I got frustrated and so I walked away. Better to do it that way before I messed it up completely.
