cargostar Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 (edited) Heres a build I've been working on for a while. The truck was used by the Toronto Fire Department in the 70's I found blueprints for the Hy-Ranger, and have scaled pictures for the rest. Edited June 24, 2010 by cargostar
RodneyBad Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 WOW, That looks like it's gonna be HUGE.. Nice scratch building..
SpreadAxle Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Nice work. It looks like a definite challenge. Good luck.
Aaronw Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Nice to see you getting back to this, it should really stand out from any other aerials it is displayed alongside.
cargostar Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 Thanks for the comments. Its a toss up as to which one to work on. Lately its this one or the Mack/Bronto.
airrj Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Cool Build! I am from the Buffalo, NY area and there used to be several Hy-Ranger ladders in the area back in the day. I never saw one with the Ford Chassis. I have seen allot on Young Fire Apparatus chassis.
cargostar Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 I finally over came a hurdle on this thing. One of the unique features of a Hy-Ranger is that the basket is leveled by cables running down the boom and too the base, and these are routed over a couple of large pulleys at the tip of the boom. After giving up finding something that would work I started making my own. This is attempt #4. Now all I have to do is build a second one!!
cargostar Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Got some more done. I have most of the 4" water line run on the lower section, and got one of the articulating joints built.
disabled modeler Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Very nice!... I like it,be great to see it when done

Paul B Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Good to this moving forward again. Looking forward to seeing the finished project. I would like to build one someday. The truck in my avatar replaced our Hy-Ranger.
Karmodeler2 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 You got 1 done the second should be a piece of cake VERY VERY nice scratch buidling...I'll keep watchin' Make one and cast it. Much easier. David Then you have plenty for more builds and you can sell them to your friends.
impcon Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Please keep us updated with lots of photos as you go along. This looks fantastic! I love those olf Ford C models - they have a timeless charm about them and this one as a fire truck should look totally awesome and unique!!! It's looking like this is going to be one of those outstanding, truly beautiful builds. Keep up the good work and congratulations on a truly wonderful job.
cargostar Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) Thanks everyone! I got the jumpseat area into paint last night/this morning. I finished it at 3 am, so if it still looks good I'll have some more pics tomorrow. Edited August 11, 2010 by cargostar
cargostar Posted August 12, 2010 Author Posted August 12, 2010 Heres the latest. This is the jumpseat area for behind the cab. It still needs some p/e slamlocks on the compartments, and a seat cushion , but this part is done!

They are photo etched.
cargostar Posted August 12, 2010 Author Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) KFS is what I use. I'm guessing this is the old Hobbytown treadplate, but, I get it from Don Mills Models. I buy it 20 sheets at a time, because these big trucks sure eat it up! Edited August 12, 2010 by cargostar
cargostar Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 I've thought about it. But, I have a hard enough time finising one truck, let alone the Super Pumper, the tender, and the satelite pumpers. The next may be something from Chicago. I'm leaning towards Big John, or one of the Willys deluge trucks. Or I started CFD 759, a Paystar wrecker years ago, I might dig it out.
Chuck Most Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I'd say it's looking good, but that would be an understatement! I've got to try my hand at a fire rig one of these days.
codie27 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Looking great, what a massive amount of work going into this build!
