Andrew McD Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Really enjoying your efforts to make this authentic period correct. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, Andrew. Doing my best. Some slow progress on bars. Got ‘em painted. Gonna do some work on some scale 7” “cheater” slicks with required grooves. They will replace the scale 8” regular slicks I started this project with. 1
R. Thorne Posted March 18, 2024 Author Posted March 18, 2024 Scuffed up the “new” 7 inch tires and removed the double pin stripe whitewalls. Gonna have to scrounge up or make/modify the backing plates as they too wide for the smaller tires. Rarely can you change one thing without having to change one or two others. Part of the game. 3
FoMoCo66 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Looks spot on man. How did you make the grooves in the tires.

Broke down and purchased the amt #977 Surf Woody kit as it came with four 7” slicks. The tires came with 4 grooves in them. Believe it or not, I am considering how to fill 2 of the grooves (how anal is that?) as the slicks in those days came with 2 grooves. Thanks, always appreciate the input. 1
Tony Coomer Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Great build so far. I really like the traction bars…

Finally got around (sidetracked by another build and lack of motivation) to rigging up some thinner backing plates. Glued them together, then glued them on to the rear end using some 123 weights and some old tires for alignment. 1

Bainford Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 It's coming along very nicely, Ron. Fine attention to detail. Looking great.

Your acknowledgments are always much appreciated. I will keep plugging along and finish this thing soon (famous last words).
R. Thorne Posted April 1, 2024 Author Posted April 1, 2024 Got stalled on this one. Had some paint issues on the other WIP (69 Camaro). Yes, I work on at least 2 builds at once. Anyway, after some reaming with an 1/8” drill bit and some spare tires because the center hub protrudes beyond the tire face, I glued on the front tires. Really like the cheapo drill chucks instead of changing drill bits all the time. 1
R. Thorne Posted April 2, 2024 Author Posted April 2, 2024 Painted some black under the hood that I missed. 1

R. Thorne Posted April 30, 2024 Author Posted April 30, 2024 Finally, back on the 57. Working on the bright stuff with Hasegawa chrome. Experimenting with short scalpel to trim the edges with. Screwed up on the top front by cutting into the plastic too hard. Will try to fix that later. Better off cutting the thin strips first, then installing, as this stuff is harder to cut. Definitely different experience than bmf. A pic of the bmf type stuff that came in the Pro Modeler kit, which I decided against using ,along with some photo etch stuff. 1
R. Thorne Posted April 30, 2024 Author Posted April 30, 2024 Dug out a pic of the side view of a 57 belair. Put the photo etch side trim on. First with some Future glue, then gs Hypo worked better and quicker. 1
R. Thorne Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 First time dealing with photo etch stuff and it shows. Too much ca on the door handles. The Hasegawa is shiny, but almost impossible to trim after it is installed (for me, anyway). I tried different type scalpel blades with the same result. Overall, chalk it up to experience and move on. Gonna do the other side and, maybe, try to trim closer before installing. 1
R. Thorne Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 By the way, comments (good, bad, indifferent), suggestions, critiques are always appreciated.
FoMoCo66 Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Hey I don't think it looks bad. I like the super shiny trim.
R. Thorne Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 Did the left side today with much better results. Experience counts. Am I going to redo the right side? Maybe later. 1

I think last night the glare was affecting my trimming and cutting. Better in daylight today. You almost need sunglasses on with this stuff. 1 1
R. Thorne Posted May 6, 2024 Author Posted May 6, 2024 Put a quick coat of polish on, shifter installed, some final engine work (decided against plug wires), and installed battery in trunk along with spare tire (unfortunately no hold down bracket). 1
R. Thorne Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 (edited) Engine installed, windshield installed, modifying the exhaust to simulate cutouts, no over axle pipe, just straight pipe to rear axle, per NHRA rules. Edited May 8, 2024 by R. Thorne Tailpipe
R. Thorne Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 Forgot about driveshaft loop, cut driveshaft off of tail housing, cut some round tubing, and making some flat stock. 1
