Foxer Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 This has always been a color tint that I have never been satisfied with in my attempts to duplicate it on models. So this is a little survey to see what everyone has used. Here's an example of the look I am talking about: Eastwood Tools has a paint system to replicate this look, but this is probably a bit much for our small parts. It uses a gold paint and then random splotchy mist coats of transparent green and red spray. Maybe this can be done in the same manner with the right gold paint and transparent model paints. I'll have to look into this. The big question is what brand gold paint or mixture does everyone use? I've used a mix of gold and silver in the past, mostly to tone down the gold, but his was never satisfactory. Mike
crazyjim Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I paint mine with Testor's brass out of the little bottle.
roadhawg Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I usually paint it aluminum, then dry brush it with brass.
Brendan Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I use Tamiya's X-31 Titanium Gold over Flat Black. It seems to get a pretty good result. I've also shot semi-gloss and dull coat over it, depending on how much of a shine I want on it.
VW Dave Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 After getting good results with the Eastwood system on some 1:1 Mopar underhood parts a while ago, I tried a smaller version on one of my models: I did a quick shot of Tamiya silver leaf, followed by a mist of gold and then metallic green. After this pic was taken I added more gold, because it seemed a little too green for me.
Foxer Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Lot of good suggestions.. gonna try some. Thanks for the responses. ))
