Those bonnet pins will be removed

the body has been pre-assembled.

the wing mirrors sit in a strange place, so they've had pins aded to make them easier to install

Spoon test, this is Zero Grey primer, with Zero Black base & a light coating of Proscale Aston Martin Blue, finished with a coating of Zero 1K thinnned with Mr Color levelling thinner.

Looks a bit like Midnight Purple - but in blue...

Interior was simple and easy to put together. I was tempted to put in some belts, but decided to get this completed quickly rather than faff with that.

The Chasis was also simple to put together, just waiting for wheels

This has had a coat of Zero Grey Primer

A coat of thinned Zero Black (it was called gloss black, but these lacquer base coats always turn out in a satin finish

then masked the black bits and coated in Aston Martin Blue - the same proscale paint used on my Mazda Mx5 - It was difficult to get an even coating, so i probably applied too much & coated the black too thick. But its good enough for me, I waan't going to go over it again...

then applied decals - added a few additional decals to fill the gaps.

I did use Microsol, and that left stains, when I cleaned the car for top coating, the decals came loose, so had to try to re-stick with microsol... eventually coated in Proscale 2k - this time I did add a little Mr Color self levelling thinner.

The result as seen is not as deep a colour as the spoon test, but a darker blue than the MX5, the gloss top coat is orange peely, and has a few pits, but minimal dust - which is a bonus - I was woried about sanding / polishing the paint with the decal underneath.

Next up is polishing....

It's coming together nicely Atin, the way it's turned out slightly darker looks good to me. Polishing should be a fairly minimal exercise?

Thanks Nigel, im worried about going through the clear coat where the decals are,  but should be minimal!

The windows did not fair so well.

I masked it up, but forgot tomask this bit, I started spraying & noticed.

I tried to clean off with lacquer, but it cut into the surface!

SO I finished masking & painted, now its dry, I'm going to have to sand and polish out the inside of the windscreen

The tail light is gloss black, with the exception of these six 3mm diameter lights.

They are too small to mask with tape

SO I'm going to mask with PVA, spray them black, and then remove the PVA to then finish off in the appropriate colours.

If that doesn't work, there is a plan B

And with PVA:

6th Tamiya Fine twice

It turned out OK, not perfect, but good enough for me!

This is not one of my strengths, I tend to rush, push too hard, or try to cut corners.

but this time, I spread it out, and it helped me stay on course.

Next up is the photoetch grilles

So mad! I found this kit in the Austin HobbyTown and then got distracted and forgot to buy it. I hope they still have it next month when we're back there.

Minor update, during a chassis fit test, there is a gap after the wheel arch, its too noticable, so I've added some plasticard & have painted it now (unpictured), Next up is some PE grilles.

A couple of weeks of updates

Headlamps in.

I also cut and fitted 11 pieces of Hex pattern Photoetch. it was fiddly, and lots of it got scrapped, but got there in the end

Wing mirrors in & front side spoiler thnigs fitted.

I've also added some PE bonnet pins, I used X22 Tamiya clear for this, it looks OK, but a bit wonky.

Final touches are now done!

I made an exhaust tip with large diamter alu tube - I did thin-down the end as much as possible, and then put the wing and diffuser in place.

I'm calling this done now, I do need to take some proper pictures and post in finished models!

Really happy how it turned out for a kit that cost less than £20!
