NYLIBUD Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 I thought it was worth mentioning that actress Shelley Duvall has passed away at the age of 75.She passed away from complications from diabetes. She was great in the Shining, when she played the role of Wendy Torrance. She was also in Popeye with Robin Williams, along with other films. She wasn’t bad looking when she was young either.RIP.?
ChrisBcritter Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Second image is from Robert Altman's haunting film 3 Women, co-starring Sissy Spacek and Janice Rule as the other two women.
bobss396 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I thought she almost single-handedly ruined The Shining, the REDRUM kid put the finishing touch on it. I will call it one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I saw it once, never watched it again. 3

I will call it one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I saw it once, never watched it again. I did not see The Shining, until last year. What a Truly horrible movie. After hearing how great it was, and how much my wife liked it, I was primed to really enjoy it. I did not. The only things I liked about it were the cars, and watching the backgrounds for things. (Furniture, Food, Set dressing items), Even Scatman Crothers was wasted. Shelly Duvall wasn't too bad, but the character she played was both sad, and not very real. I normally like Nicholson, but He just got weirder, and weirder. I could not wait for him to be gone. The whole movie was a bad nightmare. I do not see how it ever got famous at all..... The thing to me, was that there was nothing really likable about any of them. So, to those who like it, Have at It! but do not be surprised if you show it to people who have never seen it, and they do not share your liking of it. It is now almost 45 years old, and it might be aging badly.
bobss396 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 The Nicholson characterization was too far over the top. They should have reeled him in a notch or 2. I saw it ONCE and that was enough. Maybe since I had read the book first, the movie let me down. I guess if you had not read the book, you may have liked the movie. 1

I didn’t read the book but I saw half of the movie until the end. Jack was over the top. Shelley was doing what the director wanted. Stars like Jack Nicholson Usually get free reign on there interpretation of the scrip.. May Shelley R,I.P.
TonyK Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 The Shining was a bad movie for me too but I suppose both Shelley Duvall and Nicholson did a good job doing what was asked of them. I still think The Exorcist was the worst movie ever. The Shining was too long but these types of movies aren't for me. I find them boring. I do recall seeing Shelley Duvall in other movies where you could appreciate her character more. 2
Mike C Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 She played Olive Oil in the live action Popeye movie with Robin Williams (he was Popeye).
