Started this one years ago. Used ford code ember glo paint. Bought the 66 fairlane kit for the engine since it is better looking and has the proper air filter. Neither kit had the proper steering wheel so went looking for other ford kits in the dungeon. Then i remembered early mustangs had something of the right steering wheel. Found an old 65 stang 2+2 kit and there it was. May do a tire swap. I love the 7 litres mainly the 427, i think the 428 was a bit of a step back as they built it for cruising. But 1/2 way through 66 NASCAR helped ford with the 427 and made the side oiler( i believe). And why this car in this color? If i remember my history there was only 1 hardtop in ember glo with a manual trans. Plenty of convertibles. Also rumors say there was a 65 mustang in ember glo with a 7 litre from the factory. So with any luck i can stay on track with this one.

Took the breather on the left from the 66 fairlane kit. And the motor. Steering wheel from the 65 mustang 2+2 and drilled out the holes. Kit tires on the right i may use the ones on the left, better looking tread.

Anxious to see your Galaxie finished, Tony! I believe it is going to turn out bitchen... Emberglo is one of my all time favorite Ford colors. You also got me thinkin' for a future kit bash, was the '65 7 litre Mustang in Emberglo a fastback or a notchback?

Thanks. I can't find the article. It was some cool history.  I just remember the article saying it was rumored there was a 65 stang with the emberglo and a 7 litre. A lot of fords records got lost. If i had the money to order a 65 with emberglo it would be the fastback.

I bet it is. 65 is my favorite. Had one in germany back in the early 80s. It was a mess gave a guy 275 bucks for it. Sold it for 350. Worst mistake in my life.

This sho7ld be a nice build when finished

Thanks. Might have to cheat a little. With the distributor the air cleaner sits too low.

Tony, those 65 and 66 are great looking cars.  You should build that 66 Fairlane Excelent  kits…

I am building the 66. It is a great kit, much better than the 65. I have molded in the hood scoop and made deep steelies for the rear. Going to be the the rare white version. Thought i may try to find a resin engine for it. I wish the galaxie had the same deatail that the fairlane did. The fairlane is one of AMTs better kits.

The 66 Fairlane is a newer kit like the Pontiac Catalina, 70 Monte Carlo and maybe the 56 Edsel.  If I’m wrong some one will correct me..

Yes, it dates to 1992.  'modern' tooling, over 30 years old.

Did strip and re chrome the tail lights 3 times. Nice detail on the bezels but getting the color filled without messing up was a pain. Finally got it right enough for me.

Had to enlarge the distributor location to get the air cleaner on. Still working on the engine. But one thing i would like comments on is the fuel line. It is probably a little small but i only had this wire and a larger size. The larger size makes it look too clunky for me. With the plug wires as a gage it is a tad small. Visually a plug wire and a fuel line are close to the same diameter so that is what i used for sizing.     20240721_113730.jpg.0291762cd11d113df8001795e8ff1cab.jpg

still touching everything up. But it is wired correctly.  Thanks for looking.20240721_113801.jpg.fc45796593a6a7a21b80dd22b006e6cc.jpg

Fuel line looks spot-on from here. Too many well intentioned modelers err on the side of overscaled hose and line details, and I find it detracts from otherwise good modeling. I'd rather see none than oversized. Yours is looking quite accurate so far! Nice job.

Coming along nicely. The “7” on the trunk emblem did you do that? Haven’t looked at the back of an AMT in years to remember.

I wish i could do that. That was molded in, but there are a couple of emblems on one of the trees.
