My dad took these photos back in the day, obviously, as I didn't exist yet. The same kinds of cars went to car shows in 1983, but they were 40 years younger.

That 4x4 Buick sums up the "sad but true" chapter of the car scene in the late 70s-early 80s.

Also, I wonder how much the owner wanted to sell the '37 for at the time!

You used to see a lot of those mid-size Gm cars on Blazer frames back then. I remember a particular '66/'67 GTO like that around here. Strange since pre-1970 Pontiac A-bodies weren't even sold in Canada.

I think it may have been a quick and dirty way of dealing with all the rusted out frames on them. I had a '70 Skylark Custom convertible that the frame went to powder right at the kick-up in front of the rear axle.

I graduated HS in 79. Every guy wanted wide rear tires but nobody was doing rear tubs (Not in the budget generally) The common option was 15x10 Cragars and N50-15s. Some cars got fender flares. A few were tasteful. Many were not. Air Shocks were all the rage then too. A couple of hours at the tire store and you were set.

Hmmm, this thread might be a good place to post pics (or mods done) of the cars some of us older guys' had back in the " day"

I adorned my '66 SS-Chevelle I bought new (my first new car purchase at 20 years old) with Deep chrome reverse rims on the back with N-50's, Torque Thrust black spoke aluminum rims on front and yep, air shocks on the rear.  (No pics regrettably).
