These cops need to get back on the driving course..Tax payers money at work. This Pct near my house holds all the wrecked cars for the county(Suffolk). There use to be a lot more cars, but i guess they got rid of them. The cars that aren’t wrecked, all have blown engines, and or transmissions, from what I was told…Its hard to see through the fence, but there must have been at least 6,7 destroyed Crown Vic’s.?No!!!Brings a tear to my eye.☹️???

Why should they care?

It is not their Car. Nor is it their Money. The Taxpayers will pick up the tab.

I agree with you. It is a huge waste. "A shame", as my grandparents would have said.

Things are not always what they seem. Being former law enforcement, and having a son who is currently a deputy sheriff, I can say that many times department vehicles are wrecked or damaged not by the officers carelessness, but by members of the citizenry being protected. Just last month my son was hit head on while blocking traffic due to a crash. The guy refused to slow down and merge into the traffic being directed around the wreck. This kind of stuff happens all the time. People driving thru police lines set up to protect a scene (whatever that scene entails). That said, yes, unfortunately there are bonehead cops that do stupid things with vehicles. However, that is (at least in my experience) a very small part of the much bigger problem.

I met a guy years ago that related a story to me. He was drunk driving and ran into a parked Suffolk County police car, in front of a 7-11 no less. He fled the scene, got home and went to bed, he was caught soon after. The tab back then for a full-up police car was $70,000....

While working for the last shop I ran for somebody else, I bought a really clean dark-metallic-blue Crown Vic with a blown engine from the county for $800, and a takeout engine from one of their totals for $75. Thought I'd end up with a really nice car for almost nothing, but alas, after being offered a much better paying job back in aviation, both the Vic and the engine mysteriously "disappeared" while I was moving my stuff off the lot. Uninsured of course.  :(

I know locally that it is common for people who aren't even impaired to run into cars and trucks as well as police cars sitting on the side of the road. Beyond the questions about proper maintains, I noticed none of these vehicles had the "cow catcher" style front bumpers that are common in many jurisdictions. A few Pit Maneuvers can do a lot of damage without those bumpers.

The Highway Patrol cars are outfitted with the guards, any others... nope.

Right, because it's the cops damaging all of these cars. Never has anything to do with the people who decide to run and cause accidents with the police cars. Or the twits who think it's cool to vandalize police cars.

And these cars live a hard life. Powertrain failures don't surprise me at all. I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often.

But no, let's blame the policemen themselves. They obviously think it's great fun to destroy the cars.

Yea most of the police vehicles in my local pct don’t have push bars, expect the Highway patrol cars(well actually Highway patrol pickups). Some of the older cars have push bars.I have an 09 CV P71 unmarked car that has a push bar, but that’s because a friend and I installed one. However it’s true, many of these wrecks were caused by other drivers trying to get away from the cops chasing them.A lot of them figure if they can deploy the police car’s Air bag system, they can get away. But they they usually don't.,and will add up a lot more serious chargers against them.It just adds up to desperate people doing what ever they can to get away. And many times it’s either the police officer or the criminal that gets injured, along with some innocent bystander getting injured or even killed themselves too.I do believe this one wreck in the picture here resulted in a police officer being fatally injured. And there’s more in other pcts.It can get crazy out there…”Blue Lives Matter”

Most of the cities in the KC Metro including the little burg I live in use the push bars. I like them since it makes them easier to spot in my rear-view mirror.
