Funkychiken Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Time to start a new build! A classic Range Rover Will be sprayed in a mustardy yellow. I think this is a 90's car, but thecolour is from the previous generation version - like an 80's car. 1
Funkychiken Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 Chassis required lots of filler inside and out - some of I couldn't do due to access, but came out OK using Tamiya filler. The wheels required clean up inside the cut out - and I oversprayed how they came with Alclad Aluminium - they came out OK. I was considering the box art wheels, but decided it wasn't worth the effor of masking. Lots of Chassis bits finished shown in the last pic, ready for assembly. 2
Jordan White Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Looking great so far! I love Aoshima kits, they are always well detailed! I will say that the body color wheels were only offered on a few colors, with the rest getting silver so yours will be accurate! 1
Funkychiken Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 Thanks Jordan, although im not sure that mustard was an option on this version with any wheel colour.
Jordan White Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Maybe not the US model, but I’m sure they offered it in the UK at some point! ? 1
Funkychiken Posted August 26, 2024 Author Posted August 26, 2024 Chassis is half built, went together quite well, but some of it should have been assembled before painting. Interior floor pan had to fill a lot of injector pin indents, they are still faintly visible, but I might flock the floor anyway, there are some more obvious injector pin marks, but these I didn't bother to fill, as they wont be visible in the end. Seats finished in a medium grey 5
titino Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 A very nice vehicle, waiting for progress. 1

Hey Titino, id love to, but been on 3 business trips, and now on holiday in Bulgaria! Chilling on the black sea coast right now, but checking in on everyone elses builds! I think ill get back on the bench in a couple of weeks! Thanks for the interest! 1
oldcarfan Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 They made some in Camel Yellow which if I remember right, Tamiya has a paint that matches that. 1
iamsuperdan Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I keep meaning to pick one of these kits up, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Looking forward to seeing more! 1
Funkychiken Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 OK, so back from Bulgaria & straight to Mardid for Business, but got some progress on this and another model on the go. Chassis is now built the floor plan is also prepped for body colour - hope to get a test spoon sprayed this weekend. The interior parts were masked for black bits - they were sprayed today with X-18 results hopefully tomorrow! shown is the centre console, the dash & the steering wheel, not pictured are the door cards. 3
Funkychiken Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 The interior parts have been unmasked, and clear coated with Alclad Semi matt next up is spoon test for body colour! 6
slusher Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 Great work, I like how you are using different shades in your interior! 1
Funkychiken Posted October 28, 2024 Author Posted October 28, 2024 Minor update on this kit. I did a spoon test on my creamy yellow - looks great in the bottle, but its too yellow on the spoon. So i pivoted and now going with Tamiya TS-40 spray can which is metallic black Next up is probably focking and assembly of the interior I have some other nearly finished kits before I start coating the body shell 2
Funkychiken Posted May 5 Author Posted May 5 This build stalled because I need to get flocking into the Interior, and I'm still undecided as to whether I'll bother or not. In the meantime, this weekend, I got a few coats of primer on the body exterior after painting the inside the interior colour & then masking... ready for the metallic black... 3
Funkychiken Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 The Body was coated with Tamiya Aerosol metallic black, it seemed to go OK (first pic). But the clear coat - Tamiya Clear Aerosol did not go down so well. The last pictures you see here are all after micromesh (3200 to 8000) then Tamiya polishing system Coarse, Fine, Finish. I'm not happy with the result, but its not the end of the world, I'll be finishing the kit as is. Next up is masking and the trim parts... 1
iamsuperdan Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Maybe a little bit of orange peel in there, but will still look great on the shelf. I like the black more than the yellow you had picked out. 1
Pete75 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Nice looking kit this. My favourite era of Range Rover too. Interior detailing looking sweet. I think you chose the right colour in the end. I'm no expert, but I do have a fair amount of experience with Tamiya TS-13 clear coat... and fixing problems with it! My vote - if you have the time and/or energy - would be to sand the bulk of the orange peel out with, say 800/1500 grit. You'd probably touch the colour coat here and there, but be slow & careful. Finish off with, say, 2000 and clean-up well. Then do the clear again - 3 light coats (TS-13 loves to run if applied to heavily). I normally wait a week, then sand & polish starting at 1500 grit. Of course, you may just be sick of the sight of it and just wanna have done with it! 1

meechum68 Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Awesome work!! And I just learned a new technique on interior detailing! Thank you!!! I never thought of it. The taping of dash etc to paint vents and such!
