Just Jim Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 This kit was much more of a challenge than it should have been. Being a newer kit, I expected it would go together much easier than it did. Should you decide to build one, be aware the chassis on mine sloped downward in the back making it near impossible to connect it the interior tub. After the glue dried in the front, I forced the back end together (best I could) with a large clamp, a piece of styrene, and a lot of glue. Additionally, the wheels do not snap onto the axels as advertised. I had to open the holes on the wheels significantly. Finally, and I know this is my fault, but when you set the engine, make sure it's pressed all the way down on both sides. The top of the engine is so fragile, I was hesitant to really push on it and it came back to bite me later when I discovered the engine was just crooked enough to make it where I had to sand down the side of the brake booster and the radiator hose would never fit. Ultimately, I powered through, and you can see the result. As always, thanks for looking! 6
XYHARRY Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Nice, I'm not a big fan of the modern cars but this beautiful Corvette really caught my eye. That colour really makes it stand out. Well done Jim. Cheers, David. ??
ncbuckeye67 Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Great looking build. That is such a beautiful color for a Vette!
Jim Whalen Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 (edited) Nice build of the C5 Corvette Jim. I found the chassis didn't fit well also, I cut some slits in the vertical sections on the side (it couldn't be seen once assembled so it wasn't a problem) and created some space so that the chassis had some flexibility. This process cured the stance problem. Here's a picture of mine - it's the same kit, just the commemorative edition version. Edited September 17, 2024 by Jim Whalen changed the picture
karbuildr Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Not an easy kit to build, but you did a great job on yours. Well done.
STU111 Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Nice Vette. Sometimes it’s more satisfying if a kit fights you a bit and you come out on top as you have.??

Thanks for the compliment and the insight on how you handled the issue on yours, both of which look great by the way. I'm sure this won't be the last time I come up against this issue so that advice will no doubt come in handy at some point in the future.
mrm Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Nice. What kit is this, who makes it? For some reason, I never see C5 kits at the vendor's tables at shows. 1

It is a Revell kit - they do several versions - sometimes they're boxed as Monogram kits. Here is a picture of one of the convertible kits they issued.
Jim Whalen Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Hi Jim, here's a picture of the where the cuts need to be that I was talking about in the chassis. After the cuts were made I widened them so the chassis plan had room to flex, due to their position they aren't visible when the model is assembled. I plan to do the same to a convertible I am building at the moment in case it has the same problem. I also have a C6 that is ready for paint and the assembly looks similar on that kit so I am wondering if the same process will be required. The C5s are nice cars and the Revell kits look the part, so, if you like them I guess it is likely that you will build one again. 1
