Jürgen M. Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) Little trailer mock up! The part you see in the background is the rear part of the trailer box! Here's a close up! Ran out of filament, so I have to wait for new supplies before I continue printing the rest! Edited October 21, 2024 by Jürgen M. 2
RoninUtah Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 That tractor looks great, well done! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the trailer. 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Thanks! I got my filament supplies today so the show can go on! ? 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 Had a problem with the new filament. The vacuum bag had a hole which lead to a high humidity inside and therefore made huge printing problems. I put the filament in my dryer for a couple of hours, now it seems to work! In the meantime I finished the trailer wheels! 2

But on the up side, those wheels look great, I have always painted my rims grey and the hub assembly black or a very dark grey, looks to me I might have to change my ways. This looks really good , buddy Jeff
Jürgen M. Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 Thanks Jeff! I just used the main color scheme of the tractor which I had chosen for the whole rig! The color scheme of the cab wil be adapted on the trailer! If it ever gets finished! I started the third try today to print the front part of the trailer. That will take about another 10-12 hours! 1

Never had that with any other Revell paints. Not even thinner helped! Has anyone had that same experience before? The lid was tightly closed so no air could get in but maybe the bit of air that was inside already caused the change? Looks sticky around the lid, yes, but it's absolutely sealed right! Hardly got it open! How old is the paint? I'd try Tamiya clear orange instead. Water based acrylic. 1

BK9300 Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 It’s a pleasure to take part in the enthusiasm you bring to your builds! 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 Thank you! Very nice of you to say that! I always enjoy watching your builds too. I can learn a lot! 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 Good morning everyone! I have only a little progress to show. I have so much other stuff to do, I hardly get to the bench at the time! Anyway, I was able to assemble the trailer box and primer it so I can see where to rework before painting. The black material doesn't show much. After rework I'll put another layer of primer on it, then the first base coat! I want to use the same color scheme as on the tractor. I also made some decals which I still have to print though! 2
BK9300 Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Wonderful job, Jurgen - will look even better when you get it painted and decals on! 1 1
Biggu Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 That turned out REALLY good ! Personally I really like the white and silver. Either way it will make a really unique unit. I have never seen a real life Pete 352 day cab. I wonder how many they made over the years? ??. I’m eagerly awaiting the next instalment and finished product …. You print your own decals too???
Jürgen M. Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 Thanks guys! Still have to do some sanding, then a second layer of primer before I put the base coat on. It´ll hopefully turn out OK. I´m always a bit afraid that the paint comes off with the masking tape when I put on the second or third color. Yes, in some cases I have designed and printed my own decals. I bought water slide paper in white and transparent and print them on my laser printer. Mostly I print them on paper first to see if the size fits. Sometimes they come out smaller than I designed them. The main reason is that I´m running out of decals from the kits I´ve built and mostly they don´t fit the truck I´m building in size or color. 1
Randy D Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 The wheels came out great Jurgen and the box is looking good. Randy 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 Thanks very much! Hope I have some time the next days to finally sand it and put in the second layer of primer! 1
Rockford Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 This is a fantastic saga of a build. Shame about the problem with the filament but you beat it! The La France job will be something to watch. Well done. 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 Thanks Steve! Hope I find enough information and especially pics from all sides so I can design it! The Pete hast to be finished first though! ? 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) It's grey! The paint isn't quite dry yet on these pics. That's why it looks so glossy! Now the masking part begins! ? I'm a bit nervous cause the tape may pull off the paint from the smooth surface of the side walls! I have quite a lot of experience with masking and painting on real cars so I know how to do it but the past had shown that experience can be a bitch. (Is it allowed to use that word here?) Edited October 30, 2024 by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 It worked! ? Seems there was a leak at the back door! Doesn't matter though. It'll be covered by a decal and I can touch that up with a brush first. Now the brass colored stripe in the middle hast to be masked and painted. Then decals, then clear coat, then final assembly! 2
37 caddy Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Ive worked in bodyshops for the last 40 years,we used to "deaden" the tape before we put it on a soft freshly painted surface when we were doing a 2 tone. You run the tape through your fingers to help reduce the stickyness of the tape,it helped to keep from pulling the fresh paint off,We did this as the last step before spraying the paint,it does remove some of the glue in the tape and the tape could come loose if you werent careful.Fineline tape is also good for getting nice crisp lines between colors too,it is a bit less sticky then regular masking tape too. 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 That is correct! I can only agree! We did the same thing! And I did the same with the masking tape on the trailer! Then a layer of the color below to seal the gaps and then the new color! 1
Jürgen M. Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 Got the brass colored stripe on! As soon as it's dry I'll apply the decals! 1
Gary Chastain Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Good color scheme, decals will make it pop. 1
