53gmc Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Gonna do parts swapping between these two kits. Gonna build a gmc pickup and a chevy blazer. The gmc 305 v6 is from Texas 3d customs. Just waiting on revell 64 c10 frame to replace the amt one. 4
53gmc Posted October 18, 2024 Author Posted October 18, 2024 Starting with the pickup first. I stripped all the emblems since this truck will be turned into a gmc. Also sanded off the side trim to represent a lower level truck. 2
53gmc Posted October 18, 2024 Author Posted October 18, 2024 Partially built up the big v6 and mocked it up in the engine bay. This engine is nicely detailed, it's such a shame to build it up and hide alot of the details. 5
53gmc Posted October 18, 2024 Author Posted October 18, 2024 Cut the bucket seats/center console out and started turning them into a bench seat. I'm thinking of making a saddle blanket style seat cover for it. I haven't decided on weather or not I'm going to do anything with the door panels or just leave them as they are. 3
53gmc Posted October 19, 2024 Author Posted October 19, 2024 Scratch built some base model door panels. The arm rest are made from the center console 2
53gmc Posted October 19, 2024 Author Posted October 19, 2024 Found this steering column with a shifter on it in my parts box. I'm back dating the truck to a '67. this steering wheel is pretty close to a 67/68 wheel as opposed to the kits 71/72 wheel. 1
53gmc Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 Interior is almost done just waiting on the door handles from ebay. Aftermarket gauges, p.e. pieces on the dash, parts box steering wheel/column/pedals/ seat belts. Didn't want another black or gray interior so I picked a metallic blue that would've been close to a factory option. 3
53gmc Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 Interior is almost done, waiting on door handles. Found a little model box for the 72 gmc kit I might add to the seat. 2
53gmc Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 While I wait for parts and paint to dry, I decided to start on the jimmy/blazer. A common complaint about this kit is the engines proportions. The red engine is from the c10 kit, the white is from the jimmy kit.
53gmc Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 Mated the trucks block to the Jimmy's transmission 1
Mike Slapattack Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Cool that you're doing this. I was just thinking today about doing this grille swap given how rare the old GMC Action Line kits are. 1
53gmc Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 That's why I'm doing it this way, I wish they would reissue the gmc kit 1 hour ago, Mike Slapattack said: Cool that you're doing this. I was just thinking today about doing this grille swap given how rare the old GMC Action Line kits are.
53gmc Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Got both engines painted and assembled. Added wiring and fuel lines. It's crazy how big that gmc v6 is compared to the sbc 2
slusher Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Super nice work! Love the seat craftsmanship! 1

53gmc Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 Thinking of using this frame from the 64 chevy kit. Made coil springs out of wire. 4
dino246gt Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Very nice projects, can't wait to see more! 1
53gmc Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 The resin short bed and 67-68 hood came in today. It also came with a shortened frame too but I think I'm gonna run the revell frame 2

Really cool engine in a great truck platform. And yes, the GMC V6 looks downright beefy compared to a SBC. It's a few inches taller and wider and also heavier. Nice work swapping all the stuff on these kits, it's a great idea! ?? 1

I wouldn't mine owning a truck with the v6 someday
NOBLNG Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 (edited) Nice work so far. The engines look good.? I built the Crew Chief Blazer and yeah….there are some scale issues.? Edited October 24, 2024 by NOBLNG 1
spkgibsonfirebird Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Looking great so far, who makes the V6? 1
