Horrorshow Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 In the early 70’s, Junior Johnson was approached by RJ Reynolds tobacco, they wanted to sponsor as many as four cars. Somehow they ended up sponsoring the whole series and the Winston Cup was born. If Junior had accepted their offer I would think it would have opened the door for all kinds of tobacco sponsorship entering the sport. I have already posted a couple of 1970 era tobacco themed cars. I thought of honouring NASCAR’s most famous last lap by building these two together. Started with two Buddy Baker Salvinos kits (they were on sale). Lots of different decals were used. I was pulling for Donnie that day. 3
Michael F Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Both are beautiful !! The Winston car is my favorite. Very nice??

bobss396 Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Well done. I have to get me one of those. I had an uncle that worked for RJ Reynolds on the NASCAR promotion team. He got free Winstons... too bad lung cancer took him out somehow..
Jim N Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Interesting conceptualization. Very nice looking models.
bobss396 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Those are great builds. Who made the decals? I finally found a kit from Mike's Decals, on sale.

A whole bunch of different decals from various sources. Numbers and contingencies were Powerslides, the Winston stuff was from a couple of Jimmy Spencer sheets and the Rothmans were from Spot Model and Indycal. Part of the fun for me is the planning and collecting.
