I know nothing of these kind of trucks, but your build and weathering looks very realistic.  Must have been scary as hell to be up in the back of one of those trucks.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful.

Loved those things from the first time I saw one light up, still do.

EDIT: I'd built Monogram's M34 "Eager Beaver" 6X6 as a kid, and when I saw similar-looking trucks fitted out with armored beds, multiple .50s and even M134 chain guns salvaged from helos, I was like "C O O L !!!"

Lot scarier to be in a convoy not protected by a few.

These trucks are just bad "A" IMO and you've done a great job with this one Scott! Good lookin' ride with some good weathering buddy.

I have one I have to build. They were something made up on the spot from whatever was around.

I've been going down this rabbit hole since the thread was started. Its a fascinating topic.

Seems "midnight requisition" was the order of the day.

Some of them even used the hull from an M113 APC as the armored box on the back.

M60s', M2's, quad 50's and even M134 miniguns, quite the variety. Lots of room for "what if" builds if you're not into rivet counting.

There was a special about the trucks, maybe on the AHC channel. I have watched it 2x.

I have a 1/35 scale kit and some red clay weathering stuff. This is a key element for realism. The kit is very well detailed. I will have to work on nothing else when I get into it.

WOW!! I may have to entertain something like that.  That would have to be a 5 ton to haul that sucker around with all of the uparmor.

Yes, early on they used the deuce and a half, but the suspension and drivetrain wouldn't hold up, so they switched to 5 tons. M54A2.

There is/was a 1/35 available from AFV that had the M113 box on the M54A2 truck.

That would ne a super cool build.

Yep, that's the one.

I don't mind helping people spend their money on hobbies.

Can't wait to see the build.

I just hope I can give this kit the justice that it deserves. LOL

FWIW, WW II vintage CCKWs were set up as "gun trucks" as well, but as mobile AA platforms with quad .50s, but no armor.

This is not Vietnam, obviously.

My beef with most of the 1/35th armor and other military stuff is,,,, no engine detailing ,,,,fantastic otherwise ,, My Tamiya PBR Mk2 river boat would have been fantastic with a pair of 6V-53 Detroits and Jacuzzi pump jets

I've been fiddling with this over a year,,it's a Masterpiece Models ASPB  ,,resin cast 1/35th scale. It's going to be in the diorama along with the guntruck along with a Tamiya PBR and some other pieces for the land based convoy .I made all the rails and and masts from K&S brass rod and Evergreen styrene rod I'm just about ready for primer and paint .The canvass is done with styrene and brass rod and the supports will go into predrilled holes.I replaced the barrels in the turrets with brass . My diorama will be based on the activity during Operation Coronado in the Mekong Delta /Vung Tau/Dong Tam areas .The ASPB's were built by Gunderson Brothers and had twin 12V-71 Detroits with props but in a "tunnel drive" design,,shallow draft .Steel and aluminum
