I spent a whole bunch of hours at the bench today and it doesn’t look like I got much done ….. I added head bolts, air compressor bolts, and oil filter bracket bolts. I put a pic of before and after on the head bolts. I think there is a difference but maybe not so visible under paint but they are there.

Pretty soon you'll need that second pair of glasses to see all these small pieces!  They may not be noticed for themselves once painted, but taken as a whole, the engine will look better with them in place.

Thanks Brian, I do believe its the little details sometimes that count.

I fixed the head bolt on the right bank that wasn’t sitting correct , it is now in place properly.

I think you should paint it God's color Alpine Green and put "RELIABILT" decals on it  😉

Well, now that Mr. Peter Hayes is on the road, time to try my hand at something a little bit different ……so because the bar has been raised by so many of you guys, on fabulous scratch builds and added detail builds, it has pushed me to ‘think’ I might be able to make something of the re-issue AMT/Ertl IH Payhauler 350. I plan to plumb this truck as much as possible as this truck has MILES of hydraulic lines and plumbing for nearly every moving part has a hydraulic line connected. I am being inspired to do as much as I can, by the King of hydraulic plumbing on his Magnificent build, my good friend Brian Kerr. As my scratch building skills are mediocre at best I will be using the fabulous CTM 24097 hydraulic fittings kit. This is anticipated to be a long term build. The plan is also to weather it a little bit to, once again show a working rock truck….. it should have some oil, grease and dirt in the appropriate places.  As this is anticipated to take some significant time , in order to prevent burn out on an involved build I will supplement this build with a heavy haul Western Star ….. and it will have some modifications and additions. Box art shots of the two victims …….I hope some of you will follow along as I wade through this one …. or two 😉

Funny you say that. …. I VERY near decided to do a wrecker on this one. I have the KFS Holmes 750 resin wrecker conversion…… it was real close, but ……. i do have another Star with that European Wrecker body that I will never use, so that one is slated for the Holmes conversion…… it was a close call Scott …..

Nice little details

Thanks , Jeff ….. they may not even show, but the possibility they ‘might’ and even if they don’t …. It was a fun couple hours at the bench. Not sure why I even do this stuff as this will just sit on the shelf gathering dust and I will probably never lift the hood ……🤔🤔

We all do it mate. You'll have a great feeling of satisfaction just knowing what you've done with this engine. The bolts will make a difference too, they just bring that extra touch of realism to the job. Well done.

Thanks for that , Steve …. I really wonder sometimes but on my mind it is the small details that are subtle that makes a change …. I appreciate your thoughts on this. I shall continue…

Liking this build because I can’t remember anyone going in such depth to detail this kit. Great job Jeff. Now take a break it’s time for your meds 😂

Couple hours at the bench ….. got me an ‘almost’ finished fuel tank, seams sanded and weld beads added …. And got the Western Star cab ‘tacked’ together.

Looks like my buddy Ron, is building his 350!at lightning speed and I had better keep up ……. So as Ron is doing, I also am adding some small details I’m hoping may show up under paint…. I thought the molded bolts on the air cleaner hold down straps were a bit weak , so I changed that, added the Meng bolts before and after pics, transmission and what I perceive to be the torque converter , then the water pump and then the belt pulleys and then lastly the hydraulic pump and one large engine mount bolt

That's looking really nice Jeff! Those bolts are something. I've never tried those. Maybe I should. They're almost too small for printing, at least for a filament printer. Of course I would print them in place on the engine or where ever needed but these engine bolts are even too small for that!

Popcorn and beer are in place, keep going!

Thanks  JM ! Those Meng bolts are actually quite easy to use and yes some are really small but they do sharpen up what can be soft detail. A guy could go crazy with them but restraint seems to be the word of the week🤭

I wasn’t going to post this but my buddy Ronald said, “no pictures, it didn’t happen” …… oh but it did…. Added some VERY small bolts to a pulley cover and completed a couple clamps on the pipe as well as scratched a couple filters , plumbing to follow….

Love the details you're adding. Reminds me of a buddy that would saw off the heads, valve covers, oil pans, ect and add a colored piece of construction paper to simulate the gaskets.....

Gotcha thinking now don't I 😄

You DO!  But I was thinking I might be going a bit far with all the bolts. 🫣🤭
