My comment wasn't rude, had the admins not changed it to what they did.  It amounted to something like,  "well shoot, i messed up" but when they added the 'BLAH BLAH BLAH '  it completely spun it around into something rude.  I had to edit it to fix their screw up that completely changed my tone and demeanor.   They (or the system automatically? ) did it again in my PM to you with the "BLAH BLAH BLAH ".  Those were never my words.  I can't really blame you for thinking me rude since you never got to see my original comment,  only what they butchered it into.  You need to remove your bias in thinking the mods are great and recognize that my PM  was clearly a sincere apology for the misunderstanding and I was making every attempt to not offend you and only to thank you for making a constructive comment on my mistake.  If you can't concede that then maybe it's best if you just unfollow my threads.

the blah blah blah means you used a cuss word and it got auto out by the forum. when it comes down to it, you messed up by using bad language in the first place

Watching! I bought the original release (?) of that green Mack truck as a kid many, many - really many - decades ago. The box followed me through life and as retirement nears I should finally be able to tackle it in the coming years.

I had mine for quite awhile too before starting it, but I admit not that long!  As a younger person I couldn't understand the concept of a modeling 'stash'.  Now I have a pretty good backlog built up, maybe 25-40 kits.  I highly doubt I'll ever finish them all, but I just try to build at a pace that's comfortable and above all  have fun doing it!

Really?

Really?!

You think us mods have the time to go and edit individual posts? And then you go off on us about "butchering" your threads?

Nice attitude.

Yes I understand that, but what's frustrating is the "cuss word" I used was hardly such, and my response was actually an admonishment against myself for making such a bonehead building mistake.   The edit flipped the whole tone of it to sound as though I was flippant and annoyed by the (rightful) criticism I was receiving.   Being new here doesn't help either, as I'm still learning the people,  rules, and ways and means of the entire forum.  I wish I could post my actual comment as it was written and I think everyone would understand what I'm saying and I guarantee no one would be offended by any "cuss words" because none were used.  It must have tripped the AI or whatever method is used, but a direct analog to what I said would be, "Well darn it, so it is, my mistake".  Now I'm on the outs with a member who seems to be knowledgeable and possibly the entire community who may find me suspect all for essentially saying "darn it".  Maybe darn is cuss word too because it's at least as derogatory as the actual word I used.

At any rate, thank you for the guidance and information,  I'm learning as I go here and I apologize for any grief or drama this might be creating.   That is the furthest from my intent.

I said nothing about butchering a thread, only that post.  I don't know what goes into being a mod, and while I'm sure it's not an easy job, it also doesn't mean that mistakes can't be made.  If the system is automated then I thing something in that automation should be tweaked.  And given that everything I post is followed by a message stating that it must be approved by a moderator, that pretty much says that, yes, a person will review it.

I'm also beginning to feel trolled by the member who originally corrected my mistake.  My crossmember was absolutely installed upside down.   I'm owning that and did when they mentioned it.  Now they tell me it's in backwards.   Everything I'm looking at suggests otherwise.

I'm NO Mack expert by any means, but it looks ok toe me and that's the way I would put it in.... looks correct to me..... its your model, put it in anyway you want.... also kit parts, especially old AMT kits , were never 100% accurate with their parts anyway.... at least in my experience... I always have to adjust something... keep going, she's lookin good from my seat....

Thanks Biggu!  I certainly don't mind the criticism if it's warranted, but going off the kit instructions and photos of the real MACKoy show that my repair is accurate regardless of other opinions.

Yes, this old AMT leaves much to be desired in terms of design, fit, and direction,  but I'm muddling my way through it.  Overall it is a nice kit but some liberty and creativity needs to be taken in figuring out how they want you to assemble it.

I did get some work done today.  More engine detailing, front brake lines run air tanks mounted.  It's slow going but I'm happy with it.  Thanks for looking.

Great nut and bolt detail.

The plumbing on the engine makes it look really busy which is something I struggle with sometimes. It will look good under a splash of paint for sure

Thanks Ron!  I'm trying.   Not sure how accurate some of my placement is but I'm trying to use basic logic.  I couldn't find photos of the main air reservoir and how it mounts so I used my imagination.   Thanks for checking it out.

Really coming along nicely, Dan.  Great start to all the builds you'll have going on in this project!

Great work plumbing it out, and adding those little details. Fun to hide Easter eggs for others to notice

Absolutely!   Thanks for checking it out.  Easter eggs are a great analogy!   I always hope someone will see something and think, "wow! He added that too?!"  That's fun.  I'm not sure if I'm taking this Mack that far but I'm enjoying it alot.  Semi truck and heavy equipment offer a modeler sooo much in the way of detailing and weathering,  they are a literal treasure trove.  Thanks for looking and I hope you'll follow it .  Just be patient...it will take me awhile.   I'm slow.

Thanks!  It's my first foray back into my modeling in quite some time and I'm pretty happy with the progress too.  This will be a mammoth project if I can get it all done.   Thanks for checking it out and for the kind words.

I mised this comment earlier Jeff.  It must have gotten lost in the shuffle. Yes that busy-ness is the goal I guess.  I've never thought of it that way but it's a great way to put it.  When you pop the hood on most any vehicle these days it's a jumbled mess of wires,  hoses, and pipes.

While it will pain me a little, I am going for a good dose of realism with this model, so much of the paint color will be covered by grime and heat-induced rusting of many of the components.

That will look cool Dan. An oily engine with dust and grime really adds realism. I’m interested in seeing this come together.

These photos are from Pinterest but it looks like this model was done by a member here on the forum,  a Juergen from Germany.   Simply amazing work and while I doubt I'll be able to match this, it's a good example of what I'm striving for.

Thanks man.  I'm gonna give it a go for sure.  What Juergen nailed is the hot, dry, dusty look of an engine bay.  And that busy look you spoke of.  Just stuff going everywhere but not lacking purpose.   And getting the hoses and wires to lay right.  It looks amazing.

Smallish update but still making progress.   The chassis construction is basically done but I do still have a fair deal of plumbing and detailing to do on it.  In the meantime I'm starting in on the interior.  It's pretty basic and I intend to leave it that way for the most part.  I did spend some time upgrading the column though...the kit piece was quite atrocious with massive sink holes, poor mold registration, and control stalks that were badly out of scale.  Please bear in mind none of these pieces are finished yet.

I'm also including pics of an armor project I'm working on and parts I'm amassing for a 1950 Chevy COE and a 1966 Chevy wrecker (dodgefever inspired me!).  Thanks for looking.

The rust texture on the tank sure looks real. It takes real talent to get the different rust colors to blend. And you did that perfectly, Dan. Looking forward to the Chevy build too. Got lots to keep you out of mischief now !🤭🤣

Thanks Jeff.  I hope my rust will look good.  We'll see in a few days when I lay down the topcoat and remove the salt.  I know that doesn't really belong here but I'm working on lots of stuff simultaneously,  so I thought I'd throw it up.

Ya plenty to keep me busy!

So some work today.  I fished the air supply lines from the reservoirs to the air valves (?) and started detailing the reservoirs.  According to a schematic I found online there are numerous valves and gauges on the air tanks themselves, so I'm attempting to replicate those items.  For the gauges I took a 3/32 HF punch and punched them out some styrene sheet.  Seemed to work pretty good.  I'll try to paint faces on them or find some decals in my stash that will fit.  I need to find reference material on the safety valves and low-pressure indicators that also go on the tanks.  Chassis is getting very close to being ready for painting and weathering.  I'm thinking just basic black for the chassis color.  I'm not even sure what color the cab will be yet.  I was planning on Mack gold for the engine and tranny but I'm leaning away from that.  Suggestions?

I'm still working on the interior too.  I spent time working on the wood grain on the dash today and it didn't go well.  I should have quit while I was ahead because at one point it actually looked pretty good.
