Mike 1017 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 How can I make a white air filter look used? Thanks Mike
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Probably a little gray wash? Maybe thinned flat-black acrylic, allowed to collect in the folds and mostly wiped off everywhere else? 2
Old Buckaroo Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Sand tan military flat was my go to for *air filters. Combine that with Ace's recommended wash and you will probably have a winner. * I grew up where the majority of roads were gravel and dirt. 1

stavanzer Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I use a very pale gray on mine. If you look at an Air Filter from even a few feet away, most of them look grey not white. 1
Mike 1017 Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Thank you for the advice. I do have Sand paint. I am working on a 6 Barrell Air Cleaner. I'll give it a try when the weather gets above 5 -. 📈 Mike
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Depends on how "used" you want it to look. I just use the same "oily dark brown" acrylic craft paint wash that I use for anything else that I want to look dirty. Steve 4 1
HOLMES55 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I have to make my own air filters sometimes and use 1" wide white medical tape. I paint background that I wrap it around black. 5
Old Buckaroo Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Brad that's a great tip, Ive used that tape for headliners before. It behaved well with enamel airbrush paint over it and has been still stuck after a decade.

Steve When I saw your magnificent car in Under Glass that is the reason why I asked for tips. Mike
