Ace-Garageguy Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Yeah, definitely among the smartest creatures on the planet. Some of their problem-solving skills are almost beyond belief. Absolutely positively capable of conscious thought, and understanding and using concepts like water displacement. They're reputed to be able to recognize human faces, and remember them for years. They soar like raptors, too. Edited January 25 by Ace-Garageguy 3
rattle can man Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I'll say smart. They've figured out how to sit on the pole and shake my bird feeder and eat the seed from the ground. 2 1
VanGoGo Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I have some raven 'friends' that greet me and follow me around during my walks on the beach, the new broods are entertaining and curious, and thereis always one that is very talkative. I think what made us friends-for-life is when I crack open some urchins and give them a feast! They are cool and smart birds, always make my day watching them soar and play. 3 1

He's picking up litter to put it in the garbage...... That's how smart they are! LoL.... I have a 'group' of them that live in the wooded area around where I live. They make their rounds through here about once a week. I always enjoy seeing them......... 2
stitchdup Posted January 25 Posted January 25 you can get them to bring you gifts if you feed them regularly. it doesn't take long to get them to eat from your hand but they will take the huff if you miss a time. 2
TonyK Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Always like watching them work on a bag or whatever to get out the contents. They can be loud at times but I find it funny when it sounds like a heated conversation among many of them. 2
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Last time I was at the place in AZ, there was what appeared to be a huge communal nest in a big pine close to the house. Always full of them, cackling and cawing, flying around having fun, and soaring almost motionless over the property when the winds were steady out of the west. I want to build a high feeder for them, make some friends without attracting rodents. Hear them talking to each other here... https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/common-raven Edited January 25 by Ace-Garageguy TYPO 2
VanGoGo Posted January 25 Posted January 25 What I find incredible is how fast they grow, they are pretty much full size and learn to fly in a little over a month after hatching. The main way to tell the juveniles is the inside of their mouth is pink instead of black...they look a little like gangly teenagers, but are full size. 2
LDO Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I saw a documentary about crows. In Japan, their nests were interfering with electrical lines. The utility companies started removing nests. In response, crows began building dummy nests; nests they didn’t use. That’s a pretty smart animal. 1 1
1972coronet Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 The photo's funny for two reasons : 1.) My family's coat-of-arms ( Duw a Ddarpar i'r Brain ) 2.) I smoke Marlboro Reds 1
