gtx6970 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Anyon used the chassis components from the Revell 68-69 Chargers under the mpc 1968 Coronet bodies yet ? Any issues using it? I don't have any of the amt ertl chassis left over
Mark Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I would keep the Coronet piece, and just add front suspension detail and improve the rear suspension where you can. The Coronet part fits more tightly to the inside of the body than anything else that you can adapt. 1
Fat Brian Posted January 27 Posted January 27 The front inner fenders are made on to the body on the Revell kits so you would have to remove them to use the chassis in the Coronet.
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Yup. 😋 No major issues, but there’s always plenty to consider any time you’re doing any swaps like this. If I remember correctly, I did have to move the rear suspension slightly forward, and widen the rear stance a little to get it to sit how I wanted it to. I wanted a raised, more aggressive looking stance, so it’s not 100% accurate for factory stock. And yes, I did used the engine bay from the Charger kit. Way better detail that what’s included in the Coronet kit. Steve 6 3
gtx6970 Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Thanks Steve Your conversion gives me food for thought. Did you have any interference issues between the interior tub to the chassis plate Or did you use the Chargers interior Floor and modify it. Is your engine bay glued to the body ? I assume those are resin wheels tires hubcaps ? I will need that same tire wheel combo for sure. I'm wanting to build a replica of a friend's 1 of 1 1968 Hemi RT convertible. But not 100% sure just how much conversion effort I have in me anymore for that kind of work / detail.
gtx6970 Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 (edited) Problem solved. Im going to use the Revell Charger chassis ( actually a good portion of the kit ) entire driveline, chassis and all its suspension I dont have more than maybe a couple hours and the engine bay is almost a drop in ( from underneath btw ) Im sacrificing a Revell 1969 Charger kit So if anyone needs a body or interior, Hit me up I'm not going as far / or as deep into detail as Steve did. The car I'm trying to replicate is Hemi 4spd. So out of the box was out of the question. Thus Im all in now Edited January 31 by gtx6970 1

I had been trying to figure out how to link you to my ‘68 Coronet project thread from a few years back, but I’m out of the country on vacation, and not very good with this stupid phone! 😖 If it will be of help to you, if you can wait until I get back in a week, it would be a lot easier for my to post up the link from my desktop. For some reason, I haven’t even been able to access any of my own content that’s that old from my phone, thus the problem with sharing a link. In any event, looks like you’re on the right track. If I can help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask. Steve 2

Looking good! Don’t forget the torque boxes and skid plate. My guess is that you might have been the one to suggest them to me on my project! 😉 Steve 1
gtx6970 Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 (edited) Thanks gents This will most likely be an on and off the bench build so I don't get overwhelmed and / or burnt out with it. Slow and steady it will be Spent a few hours today just getting the engine compartment/chassis in the right spot so wheels will be centered in the opening. Edited February 2 by gtx6970
Keef Posted February 2 Posted February 2 I’m doing the same thing with the AMT 70 Superbee (VERY long term project). I was going to try and use the Charger interior as well but that made for a whole world of headaches, not to mention it wouldn’t be accurate.
gtx6970 Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 (edited) I havent completely ruled out using the dash from the Revell charger yet. But so far I think its going to be more work than its worth I have the ac vents in the MPC dash filled already , Plus ground the not so accurate console from the MPC floor and will be using the console from the I think is Revell kit Mine will basically be this car, Only black interior , top boot and rump stripe . Beenie hubcaps with redline tires Edited February 2 by gtx6970 2
Mothersworry Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) FYI...the Revell Charger front suspension is not accurate. For some reason Revell fergot the "Strut Rods" when they tooled the Charger chassis. The strut rods are round steel bars that connect to the front of the K member and attach to the lower control arms to prevent them from moving forward or backwards. A coupla pieces of Evergreen rod is a quick fix. This of course is a minor item but if yer tryin to get it right this seems like sumthin you wouldn't want to overlook as the strut rods are an essential part of the front suspension. Beenie hubcaps with redline tires You can use the Revell ‘68 Charger dash if you want better detail, but you will have to modify the dash pad to be accurate. The leading edge of the dash pad on the Charger had a heavy pad and was pretty much straight. The Coronet pad was thinner and more “V” shaped. This photo shows the beginnings of the dash pad mods, with the original unchanged Charger pad on the right half, and the thinned and reshaped Coronet pad on the left. Another consideration is the dash itself. The Coronet dash depicts an air conditioning equipped car. The Charger dash does not. Vents on the Coronet dash, and none on the Charger’s. When I was in the process of building this model originally, the interior parts were replicated and offered in resin by Ed Fluck Jr, but I think that they are unavailable at this time. A couple more dash photos. Steve 1
gtx6970 Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 (edited) Steve, I have not completely ruled out modifying the Revell dash just yet The upper dash differences are the 68 V shaped - thinner versus 69 straight across and thicker Im waiting on some aftermkt pieces for the car,,,, so its off the bench for now, While I finish up some other long ago started projects One being my Petty Blue Superbird thats been on again and off again more times than I care to admit I did pick up some paint for the engine . so I can get the correct shade of orange for the early cars . Gonna be an interesting clash of colors for sure Edited February 3 by gtx6970
