the60falcon Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I've built pretty many models now, pretty successfully. Yes stuff gets confusing or difficult. But am I missing something here? If I push this up far enough to make the wheel wells sit in the fender opening other stuff is whacky. Am I doing something wrong or is this a difficult kit? I don't want to go gluing stuff to test fit more completely as I'd like to paint stuff first. Any help would be great!
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Could be the angle of the photo, but the frame looks like it may be warped at the front end.
espo Posted February 5 Posted February 5 From the picture it appears as if the chassis is pushed too far forward, and the rear portion is also pushed up into the body further than it would be when assembled. In the last picture notice that the details on the top of the inner fender where the front suspension struts would be mounted should be back against the firewall. Maybe temporarily mount the firewall in place with tape or white glue and the rear seating so that the chassis would be in its normal position within the body and then double check your alignment with the body.

I did end up getting the firewall in, I should have added a Pic but the rear wheel wells line up 100% perfectly front to back. I'm wondering if something is warped possibly

I have found on this, and the Charger models it seems like they are trying to stuff 6 gal. of chassis in a 5-gal bucket of body if you know what I mean. 1

I'll definitely check it when I get home. I think the center piece(interior floor and front strut mounting area) is out of whack when I was putting it back in the box (again) last night I noticed it.

You may end up heating the chassis and gently lower the center section raising the front and rear sections to better align in the body. 1
slusher Posted February 6 Posted February 6 The chassis is too far forward for one thing. I can’t see enough to tell if it’s warped.. 1

If I moved it back any further the rear wheel tubs would not be located properly in the wheel arches. I didn't manage to get it in the pics but it was lined up perfectly front to back in the rear. Leading me to believe theres a warp issue up front
the60falcon Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 I'll definitely have to get some better photos. This thing has kicked my butt so many times now, just to get tossed back in the box. Even old 60s Revell kits fought me less 😂

Unfortunately, I do believe this particular kit has been out of production for quite some time. I've had decent luck with some patience and hot water.

Bainford Posted February 6 Posted February 6 It's hard to see what's going on here due to close photos and shallow depth of field. Are we dealing with three pieces here (body, chassis, and engine compartment piece)? First, place the chassis on a flat surface and verify it's not seriously warped. Post a photo. If this is three pieces, remove the engine compartment piece and see if the chassis fits the body. It appears the engine compartment piece is not fitted correctly, causing interference. Does it fit better if you try to fit the front end in first? It may also be helpful if you post a photo of the instruction sheet page. Alternatively, and this may sound silly, but is it possible you have the wrong chassis for the body?
VanGoGo Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Ive had a few kits like that...(AMT 1:16 '57 Chevy comes to mind)...had to trim the firewall to clear the bell housing, inner door panels would not fit the outer door skins, bench seat was too wide for the interior tub, etc.,etc. All you can do is heat, bend, trim and 'make' the parts fit...and hope the next kit is better! Good luck 😃
LennyB Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I pulled one of these out of my stash and I think I see what your issue is. You need to bring the radiator core support through the front opening in the body. You have it below the body 2

It does appear that area of the middle piece/floor pan is bent/warped downwards. It does make a difference in the fit for sure
Dave G. Posted February 6 Posted February 6 1 hour ago, Bainford said: Alternatively, and this may sound silly, but is it possible you have the wrong chassis for the body? I thought of this as well. It looks too long for the body and too deep in the fender (in terms of height) well department, even if it got in there. But I'd have to see it for real. And I'm probably wrong. For me, if something's going to be tough fitting, I usually find it's from Revell, I don't know why people love Revell kits so. 1

slusher Posted February 7 Posted February 7 some of the part guys may have a chassis for sale on EBay..
