I usually bend exhaust pipes cold or pass them quickly over a candle to heat them. It would be nice to have a mini heat gun that was tapered down to like a concentrated 1/4” outlet so you didn’t have to roast your fingers at the same time. I'm making do with Wifey's for now because of the low setting. If you're only making a single bend, why not slip your styrene rod inside two lengths of tubing so you can be holding close to the bend with the inner ends and your fingers are at the outer ends of the tubes? I was making bends a little while ago and the light bulb only came on now. 😯. Maybe using copper tubing reducers, you could neck it down to a small exit. Of course you risk causing a problem with the heat gun but it should have a limit switch to protect itself but maybe not. It's something to maybe experiment with. Edit: if anyone is still interested in this, there are some heat guns that come with nozzles for various tasks including one that is 1/2" diameter. They have digital readouts for wide range temperature settings and fan speed. (After this discussion I checked out Amazon and whattayaknow 🙃) Edited March 20 by customline Waste of time

That only works for one bend…if you want to do a second bend, you can’t get the tube off.😕
LennyB Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I have a desk lamp on the work bench and often hold things close to the bulb to heat them up for bending. Still gotta watch the finger though🥵

But if you need one tight accurate bend, I know it will work for that much Edit: how about TIG gloves? Edited March 18 by customline
customline Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 (edited) It was 65f / 23%rh today. I couldn't get out to the garage fast enough. Long story short 😫👇 That's it for the tudor for a while. Edit : while I'm here, I have removed home-made high-rise along with "the girls" in favor of another home-made two-carb and I have ordered some MCG 97s. The reason for the change is that if I wanted the hood to close all the way I would have to sacrifice the hard-earned rake a bit and I didn't want that . 😢 I may also swap out the heads for some front outlet units. The center outlets caused interference issues, but mainly the center outlets are not correct. Thanks for your commiseration. 😔 Edited March 20 by customline 1 1

Bullybeef Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Which Tudor got the bath? Was it the lovely beige one? I’m over here in suspense Jim!

Well I see you haven't been paying attention, Mister Benson 🤨. There is only one tudor and yes it is, or was (hopefully) a beautiful shade of beige. I probably should rename this thread but that may cause more confusion. The coupe is, for now, safe from the paint demons but it is in queue for primer. Iceman will be providing engine parts in a few days. The AMT chassis has been painted without incident and will be....Bil? BIL!....... Edit: I didn't love the "beige" either 🥴 Edited March 21 by customline

LennyB Posted March 21 Posted March 21 So when you find a coffee you like that’s the color to paint the Tudor. Two birds one stone.

No...but orange is a good possibility for the tudor if I can get the paint off it before September. I got some primer on the coupe yesterday and I'm liking the idea of Boyd's Purple Pearl which I've been saving for a special project. I think this one qualifies. After seeing Greg's red wheels against the green I thought I would take a shot at that sort of "contrast" with my wheels and got those painted and assembled. Photo later.

The tudor in in the drink getting the botched paint job removed, I hope. That one may get an orange paint job. The wheels are black and the chassis is done, pretty much. The waste not, want not coupe is now in primer and will most likely be painted purple pearl. The couple's wheels have been painted and the caps are glued on. I didn't want to reveal the color of those wheels yet because I want to get gut reactions when the time comes. If that turns out badly, I will move to plan B. Now it seems photos cannot be posted at this time so.... anyway....it's confusing, my bad.

customline Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Just to stay on the front page, I figgered I'd just show youse that I haven't been completely idle. The paint disaster has taken me to a low point but there's still some movement forward. The early morning hours had me making a hinge for the couple's bonnet. The Revell firewall provides very generous openings for that purpose 🥴. Closing them up a bit was indicated. I didn't finish but I promise to do so sometime today. The wheels you see below are for this coupe which I plan to paint with Boyd's Grape Pearl, a personal favorite. The wheels are coated in Tamiya Coral Blue. I like these colors together. You may become ill just thinking about it. I don't know. I have these two finished cars sitting on my tool chest and they illustrate the combination well enough.👇 WDYT? 2
LennyB Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Nice to see we're moving forward. I always likes those AMT 40 Ford rims. I almost used them on my 41 Plymouth Woody but I never was able to get a satisfactory hubcap for them.

Yeah, there aren't any square riggers on the high seas emblazoned on baby moons in the aftermarket yet. Someday. 🤣 1
customline Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 Well I finished the hinge job. Another hungry hippo to feed I closed up those ugly hinge slots a bit. Not enough. And then I did this in a flash of inspiration 👇 I had to put a plate somewhere so I was gonna maybe put that tubular nerf thing on the back but it just wouldn't look right so I kept the plate part and 💩-canned the tubes ....I like it. That's what's important. 😜 (gotta hide the plate light somewhere too 😉 ). 1
Bullybeef Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Nice work on the hood hinge Jim, I'm curios to see the body together with the wheels in the aforementioned colours.
