Real nice conversion. Kudos for having the brass to take on a subject like this. I've always and still do think CV's are great cars, but then I'm old and somewhat traditional. I'd leave it without a light bar too...after all, they weren't all squad cars! Nice job.

here's a few CV's I built.

Wow Ron ... three Crown Vics and no light bars! Those are good looking.. especially like the silver one with dog dishes. And whats that roof on the sharp red one?

As far as the light bar, I just through that in as a joke. This was the civilian edition my Dad had. Your silver one looks to be the same color this is scheduled for.

Hey, uh hem............... Uh in defense of Crown Victoria s every where, first , I am a car guy every bit one too ! The Crown Victoria was and and is in my opinion one f the all time best stopping , best handling cars , ( FOR IT"S SIZE ) and as for creature comforts, . speaks for it self ! Look I drove as a professional driver part time for a couple of years between Richmond Virginia and Washington D C Rail Road Crews that were comfortable in the car as I was. By the way, they wre actually old police cars , but so what ? The only problem I have ever experencedwith the Crown Victorias has been their crapola Transmissions ! I have yet to see a A O D from EITHER Now GOVERNMENT MOTOR CORP or from Ford with automatic overdrive that did n't fail miserably in city traffic ! Only Chrysler when they still built primarilty Rear wheel drive cars and their 727 Auto had a better automatic transmission! Now since they allowed themselves to be on Mitsibubusi's parts list , they too fell . By te way Mazda now makes the Manual transmissions for Ford and they are miserable to as I have had them on my bench !

Besides . look atthe last " REAL Chevrolet , the Caprice Classic . You think that was a LOOK Magazine award winner ? Ahem , the 1966 Pontic got that award , go see fer yerselves ! Besides , the 1948 Pacard prdicted the styling cues of te Caprice anyway !

The Crown Victoria was intended for hauling families and acting as a Fleet " car capible of holding luggage which it did admirbily. If yo want a small sporty car, go buy a Mustang G T . Ed Shaver

Thanks! Good choice on your color! The red one started out as this diecast kit,

I built it to be like a retired, auctioned off P71 unmarked unit that a CV enthusiast might have picked up cheap and restored to new condition. Thus the plate 10-7, means out of service.

Here's link to the build.

Looking forward to seeing your build finished. Good work.

The clear red on the tail lights is proving to be reluctant to come off. They've been in the purple pond for 4 days and not a hint of removal. May have to sand and refinish before making them all red. I'd just do the clear in red but doubt the reds will match.

Try dropping them in 91% rubbing alcohol, the clear paint should come off in no time. That's how I stripped Lindberg's lightbars to repaint them.

ah bummer, Steve ... I already got the red out, but your tip is defiantly being filed. In the end I just scraped it off with a knife and polished it back out.

Despite the summer weather finally arriving in the Northeast, I managed to get some paint on and actually polished out the lovely replica orange peal in the clear coat! The paint is Light Titanium Metallic Clearcoat, same as on the 1:1 car and ordered from Paintscratch.com. This paint went on beautifully. I used about 4 coats of Testors One Coat Lacquer "wet look clear" rather than the clear from Paintscratch. I should have stopped at 3 coats as this one was pretty smooth ... the fourth one got the "peel". At any rate, it's been a LONG time since I advanced a body to final polishing and I'm happy .. even with the paint!! ;)

So, I couldn't resist popping the lights in and the wheels on for some pics. :)

[issues an all all-points to the Portland Police to be on the lookout for a white import with huge rising sun graphic. Stop if sighted to hassle, provoke and scare the heck out of driver just on principle!]

Thanks for the comments Rodney and Nick. ;)

Foxie, She's lookin good fer an ol street gal! Personally I LIKES the Green one! Nice an low key, but it LOOKS like it means buisness! The Old Used Police car look is kinda in around here, the guys that buy 'em don't even bother paintin them! Thats jus TOO low key for me. That's why the green one is cool to me, looks more "Realer" in my hood! ;):)

Even so, I'd sue the NYPD if they dented that rear bumper... harassment is one thing, but dents and scratches are another!!

I got to admit, all of Ron's Crown Vic's look good. Subtle differences, but you know where they came from.

Out manned and out gunned, it is always best to stay quite.

From Cal, through Or and into NY (they rest couldn't play for long) it was nice enough of them to let me Gas up

time to time to insure a fare chase.

For the Thrill of the Chase.

At least they just let me off with a warning :)

Now to drive back home. LOL...

Very cool Cars Ron S.

haven't got a hold of a Testors Vic yet but the new MotorMax Vic aint half bad and a true 1/24 too.

Mike, that looks great! You did a beautiful job on the bodywork and all the little mods needed.

What did you end up doing for paint for the interior? From what I remember, that's very close to right.

It was a custom mix of something I lightened a bit... don't remember what it was I started with, but just added some white. Ended up being just a wild guess from memory so, good to see you think it's close! This paint is why it got sidelined, though. :(

X2 this is quite informative and the build is looking great.

I drove nearly every iteration of CVPI from the first time they began using the Crown Victoria name again. I even had a '79 LTD remember that one? It later became the LTD Crown Victoria and eventually the CVPI.

The '92-'97 CV's were solid performers as urban cop cars. The cars were quite nimble for their size, but lacked the low end grunt needed in the city stop sign to stop sign drag races we had on hot calls. Just about the time that 4.6 started pulling you were shutting down for another intersection. Traffic guys however loved them, I never heard any complaints about the car being squirrelly at speed as some troopers claimed. They did burn oil by the quart though. 24/7/365 operation in a city police department took it's toll. Every CVPI I ever saw or drove required constant monitoring of the oil after about 15,000 miles. Didn't see a lot of transmission issues, maybe we just didn't cause those.

1999 and up had a better torque curve for urban areas, and the Watts link rear end supposedly helped handling. All I know is it allowed the rear end to step out and slide with little or no warning. The car stayed positively flat, no body roll, but the rear end just left. I performed a left right left transition through traffic one evening at about 30 mph running red lights and siren. I lost the rear end as I made that last swerve left ino the next lane. I'm glad no one was close......

Love it!! Are those the Modelhaus center caps? And what wheels are they on?

And GREAT job on the conversion so far Foxer!

Well, now I'm going to have to finish painting this after Agent G resurrected it! I think Wayne drove one for a living, so I'll forgive him. ;) I DO appreciate the wonderful comments. :)
