So...

As I was cleaning the body, noticed  that the pin stripes were on the wrong body line over the front 1/4

ZOi7B88l.jpg

after much hemming and hawing..I dove in, had to fix it

Had to change out some of the sponsor decals in front of the wheel arch , and used up the extra pinstripes for the Olds (same sheet), but 4 hours later and alot of MicroSol.....

Also made up a drivers net out of window screen, masking tape, and 0.40 silver wire

Out of clear and into final assembly...heading to Nascar 'Under Glass' in a couple days

Cheers

The build is looking great but that bumper looks HUGE in my eye

Lol.. yep, it would really hurt if it was IN your eye

It is slightly thicker than needed and could have been tapered in at the outside lower edge, but it is what it is at this point...plus I'm not sanding through that copper again

Looking good!

On the front end, I’m wondering if using one of Canuck 3D’s ‘73 - ‘75 Monre Carlo conversions would be an option.

I was wondering that also. You would have to make race modifications to them. I have a 1977 Monte Carlo by Bandit Resin that I grafted a single headlight Canuck conversion piece onto it.

Out of curiosity I got the Canuck front bumper and held it up against the Salvino bumper. The Canuck bumper was about 3/32" wider, which would be easy to section. I couldn't hold it against the body due to the mounting pins on the Canuck part. To

This is the Canuck '73 bumper

For the '74 bumper you would need to file/sand out the rub strip in the top protrusion

CD3-007.jpg

And the lower vent holes would need to be shrunk...but otherwise...sure, give me dozen @$30 bucks each...

It was just an idea I had, as they look better than the mess that Salvinos put in their boxes.  They are pricey, but perhaps less work, or at least less frustrating, plus you have to factor in the cost of saw blades... ;)

I've always tried to take the high road regarding Salvinos kits, but geez, couldn't they have at least put a little more work into making them look right?  The body, and especially the front fascia, is what everybody sees when they look at the completed kit, and IMHO for the prices they charge it's shameful that you have to go through the amount of work that you do in order to get it looking acceptable.

That said, I have a few of these that I will tackle someday, so I appreciate your going through the trouble to make something out of it, and documenting it for all of us to follow along and learn from your hard work.  Thanks!!

Just caught up with this one as I don't visit Nascar often. Your body mods are spot on. A favorite race car of many but such a disappointing kit. You are doing your absolute best with it and it shows. Brave man!

Wow, Bruce. Sorry I'm late to the party on this one but it looks fabulous so far. Body prep, paint and decals all top notch. Engine and chassis are coming along nicely too. Looking forward to the finish on this one.

Thanks Mark..me too

So anyway, the idea of getting this into 'Under Glass' in a timely manner has gone by the wayside...still much to do

These sink marks were unacceptable

ohgHfcCl.jpg

So made up some covers and continued it on up the rear sheet

Cut down the oversized fire extinguisher and added some detail

More to come as it happens...Q.C.+C.s welcome...

Added seat belts (masking tape slices black sharpied and dullcoated with Liquitex matte medium),

juf3lhBl.jpg

4mm tube distributor, ignition wires (too big,...all I had), fan shroud  and intake metal bent up out of some .040 aluinium sheet..added a rad puke tank.

..After Futuring the front 'glass',..I ground off the lower edge of the front windshield, to be flat with bottom of the cowl ..  and BMF'd (non sticky variety..yay) the surround after gluing. Black Sharpied the backs of the  2 (should be 3) windshield crash bars

8dU8I70l.jpg

The windshield...didn't fit ..even after filing and sanding the lower edge off...Canopy glue and some weight got it in place...and a day later I drenched it in BSI Instaset kicker, and applied a generous amount of BSI  gap filling medium C/A glue..yay no fogging. Brush painted the body interior with CraftSmart Acrylic black.

Little disappointed in the BMF application,..brand new sheet and only the middle 2" will stick...GRRRrr...

Almost there

Well I gathered up all my courage and got the body stretched over the chassis without popping the glass...whew

And, of course the air cleaner sits too high...so more surgery

Bumpers fit just fine
