KWT Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I've decided to try to knock out a fairly easy one as I attempt to get back in the swing of things I built a Cuda probably 30 years ago now. It was one molded in purple, so I pretty much didn't have to do anything at the time. I got this one a couple years ago to build a better version as I do from time to time, but I've decided to go a different direction. I'm going to try to customize it a tad, but nothing crazy. I really want this to be a fairly easy and quick build... but we all know how that goes, so we'll see... Let's get this started shall we... 1
KWT Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 (edited) So this morning, we're off to the races. I've decided to try my hand at dropping if a little bit. I wasn't sure just exactly how to go about this. I dug around in my pile of plastic and found a rod and had a bit of a "hmm" moment. So I cut of the end of the original spindles. And then, drilled out holes for the new spindle location. Then I drilled out the wheels to accept the rod I found. Then glued a couple pieces of the rod inside. Gonna let the glue set up and think about the rear suspension a minute. We shall return... 6_4_4 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Looks like you’re off to a good start! What are you thinking in terms of colour? 1

KWT Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 So I decided I'd cut a notch halfway through the frame rails on both sides of the front to help give added support to the new "spindles". After this and making sure the front "spindles" fit I moved on to the back. I decided to glue the suspension in as designed. From there I cut off the leaf springs from their mounts and cut a small section from the floor plan on both sides. After these steps, I've glued the leaf springs back on at a lower point on the mounts. It's crude for sure, and I still have to clean it up and see what I can do with it, but a quick mockup shows even though I have to make a couple adjustments it's about right where I meant for it to be. 6
KWT Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 (edited) This is after thinning out the wheel wells... I not sure if it shows as well in the photo as it does sitting here in front of me, but I'm pretty sure I've got it where it needs to be. Edited April 28 by KWT 4

It's a rainy day with some elevated humidity, so probably no hopes of painting this weekend. That's cool though, as it gives me more time to think of color options. I was thinking about your normal contenders, but I've decided to go for more of a custom color. I'm just not sure what direction yet.. Anyway, at least I'm still working on one.
KWT Posted May 11 Author Posted May 11 I let my intrusive thoughts get the better of me. I had an idea on color from looking at an old build. So, I found a can of Tamiya Metallic Gray, and even though I knew better, I sprayed her down. Man it looked good... for all of 5 minutes. So I guess I'll let it sit for a day or so. Then see if I can clean it up. If not, I guess I'll be stripping it... ugh, oh well...
KWT Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 (edited) So I ended breaking out the Novus 2. It appears to be a success and we're back on track. This wasn't originally what I had in mind, but I'm kinda digging the way it turned out. So I'm thinking this is the direction I'm taking. All my other bits and pieces have been painted as well... Next will be assembly. Stay tuned... Edited May 12 by KWT 2
