1:24 Tamiya Ford GT

Haven't finished a kit in a while, but still want to start new ones, I have a few of these kits in the stash, so its next up.

As usual, excellent quality mouldings from Tamiya!

I've run my usual process of removing from the sprue, cleaning up, cleaning, priming (with Proscale grey) and then painting.

Lots of Tamiya X-18 from the airbrush, but also, some of the bigger parts were done with Tamiya Sei Gloss aerosol - i get better results like this.

Also used some different Proscale metallics - like aluinium & steel.

The body has also been scuffed, washed & is ready for painting - i'm just waiting to complete 2 inprogress builds before I attack the body...

This is such a lovely kit. You’ve made a great start Atin. Looking forward to seeing which way you go with body colour and stripe choices.

It is going to be  boring lightning blue - the colour of the box art - but don't worry, there is another GT in the stash that is likley to be more interesting!

 

At the moment, I am doing some sub assemblies shown, but not doing and body painting until my Range Rover & Mitsubishi WRC are finished (I only have the capacity to do 2 body shells at a time...!

That Ford GT should be a good build as the Tamiya kits are pretty nice Atin.  Looking good so far.

May I ask about the Proscale paints (assuming you mean the UK based company). Do they brush easily, how strong is the smell (compared to say Tamiya LP or other solvent base paints). I am about to order some but user experience would be good to hear first. Thanks!

Hi Kari,

Proscale are fairly similar to Zero Paints from Hiroboy. They are "airbrush ready" so perfect for Airbrushing, but they are not suitable for paint brush brushing like the LP paints from Tamiya are.

I mostly Airbrush & find that I have to thin Tamiya LP by about 30 to 50% (up to 1 to 1) for airbrushing.

 

So they smell just like LP, Zero paints

they are not as bad as Tamiya Aerosol, but I use an Organic filter mask every time I use all of these paint.

 

Tamiya Acrylics are obviously less harmful and less smelly, but airbost fin chemicals are bad for you eitherway, so I ALWAYS use my organic filter & also have excellent ventication too... hope that helps

The Chassis is now assembled

The dash's glue is drying

The light clustoers took a while, this is the 3rd attempt. Each piece is tiny and handling made them fall appart. SO i ended up using super glue ILO PVA... not fogged up, so I'm happy.

Each light cluser is 5 pieces, each light housing is 3 pieces, very detailed, and so far looking OK.

Nice work. Those headlamps seem like hard work, but they do look great 👍🏼.

Someone in my area has a 1:1 in the shade of blue you mentioned that you're thinking of paint your build. Let me say when I see it is always going the other way on a six-lane divided highway around here and it is very eye catching even going 75 mph in the other direction.

Its a beautiful car to see on the roads... I've only seen one at work (I work for Ford) they have a yellow one that is often used at shows. looks stunning "in the flesh"!
