Thanks,

Looks like short bed to me so thats a plus

BUT , I see the lower trim is missing behind the rear wheel opening like this 1/1 has

Yes. Moebius left those off the short bed and the long beds. You could pretty easily foil cast a pair of strips to add there.

Is the side trim molded in the body on the upper trim level kits or separate glue on pieces ?

I could maybe get by with the short bed kit and add my own trim  and buy a 3d printed 72 Grill

But its the 1/2 ton 4wd stuff that is an issue

I would really like to make this build just like the actual  truck , If at all possible

The narrow strip for custom and sport custom trim levels is molded in. The wide chrome spears for the ranger XLT trim levels are separate chrome pieces found only in the ‘72 plow truck and ‘71 Long bed 2wd kits. You can use them on the short bed if you cut them down. Erik Solie at Moebius customer service has spares and will sell you just the pieces you need so you don’t have to buy a whole additional kit just for a few parts. If you’re building a Ranger XLT you’ll also need the correct tailgate shown here and decal sheet.

Is the 70 F100 an actual 1/2 ton 4wd? Box art shows 3/4 ton 8 lug wheels

No it will be stock white steel wheels and beenie style hubcaps

Rims on it are simply to make it roll while under construction

Truck is 360 4spd

That 1970 box art image is an altered picture of an F250 from the original Ford sales brochure. The steel wheels in the 1970 F100 4x4 kit will be the correct 5 lug with the 4wd front hubs for your application. You’ll need to contact Erik Solie at Moebius customer service to purchase a set of the corrected center caps to replace the incorrect ones that came with the kit. The tires in the 1970 kit are the same generic on road radials found in all the other 1/2 ton kits. Round 2 Firestone all terrains and Formula desert dogs fit the wheels in the kit.

The trim thats going on the truck. Its been repaired and polished so I need to paint in the depressed areas a low gloss black

thinner is upper body line trim

wide is lower rocker trim

I dont think the truck is an XLT , To be honest Im not 100% sure what trim level it is

I do know the tail gate has an anodized trim panel on it .

Dash cluster bezel does not have the woodgrain on it like some I see

If you want BFG all terrains, you’ll have to look to the aftermarket because as far as I know, no one has ever kitted them.

Update

BFG tires but the RWL is turned in

I will not go so far as to get the dead nuts correct tires so some kind of stock kit tires will be fine

The truck. With tires - wheels mounted

The truck is slightly lifted so I will alter kits suspension anyway

In this pic it still needs cut and buffed before any trim goes back on

Lifelong southern AZ truck

Been in this man's family since late 70s . His dad bought it off original owner he thinks around 1978 or 79

According to the original Ford sales brochures, that wide side trim and an anodized tailgate panel were exclusive to the Ranger XLT trim level. They are in both XLT trim level kits but you’ll have to shorten the bed trim strips.

I think cheapest / easiest way for me is this kit, and just come up with the 4wd and small hubcap  pieces

Truck is a Sport Custom ,

NOT an XLT

According to the original sales brochure, the wide spears and tailgate appliqué are Ranger XLT trim pieces. The interiors differ as well.

You’ll also need to buy a 1970 1/2 ton 4x4 kit because you’re going to need the FE engine and trans from it. That 1972 2wd Sport custom kit only comes with a 302 and a three speed. The 4x4 kit also only comes with a Borg Warner three speed manual and a Ford top loader trans, neither of which are correct for that truck. It should be an NP435 but If you’re not a stickler for details, it’s no big deal.

Thanks

This kit build was all my idea anyway, he doesn't even know about it ,,,,yet

As for exact correct trans - transfer case, owner will not care. I'll just add a floor shifter, and he will be ecstatic with it on his office desk

We have probably close to another 4- 6 months' worth of work before its done . So I have time

BUT,,,

We have to paint the tail gate  next week or so.

So plan is get the kit /  parts requiring same color on hand before then . I'll drop some in the airbrush and paint it all same day

My 2 cents, if you are going to all this trouble, find one of the "corrected" grilles. I can't unsee the headlamps on these kits and I don't even own a 1:1.

Vallejo 71.317 light blue is pretty darn close to your buddys color in case you need another option.

That sure is a striking project, Bill. While the moeb kits of this series make a passable replica, they suffer from a kinda amateur hour development that shows some fairly obvious proportion issues.

There are some 3d files available now that provide a much more accurate replica in scale; check this link: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/hobby-diy/automotive/f-100-1970

Looks like most combinations of body types are available. Chassis from the moeb 4x4, amt 4x4 and the '78 bronco could all be adapted to these.

Or check with Andy here...
