TopherMcGinnis Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 Long day in the shop = little time at the bench. This is the crude beginning of the Schroeder steering box. I think some trimming and addition of styrene straps will give me the basic shape needed to sand/file it into shape.
sidcharles Posted June 26 Posted June 26 i was not familiar with this steering system, so i did a search. perhaps this will help someone: Hot Rods - The End of the Schroeder Steering Box! | The H.A.M.B. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted June 27 Author Posted June 27 I've got some larger tubing in place on the steering unit. I'm thinking about the exhaust. I LOVE zoomies, but I'm not patient enough to attempt that right now. Not sure how 572 cubic inches would sound through cherry bombs, or how well it would breathe. I do think the kit's pipes will help map out a nice system. I believe I've got a set of NOS Sonic Turbos around here somewhere 👀
TopherMcGinnis Posted June 27 Author Posted June 27 (edited) I have a nice "seasoned" set.... There. That's better. Edited June 27 by TopherMcGinnis 5
bill-e-boy Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Looking good but you gotta scrape off that made by in ..... stuff on the chassis. Just my thoughts 2 1

TopherMcGinnis Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 Did the PopPop thing today. Not much done on the '32. I did install locating pins and drilled the floor for them.
TopherMcGinnis Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 Got to spend a little time on the 3 Window this evening. Had to modify the rear track arms. The new mufflers were in the way of the instructed installation. Shortened them up a bit. I've got the front radius rods are fitted to the new axle(no pic). Driveshaft built. The steering shaft goes through right into the McSchroeder Steering Box as intended. I'll trim the collar up during body work/paint prep. I fit rotors to the hubs for better stopping power. I think the bend of the shifter looks right at home. 1
Zippi Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Looking good dude. That's got the makings of a good looking Hot Rod. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted yesterday at 03:46 AM Author Posted yesterday at 03:46 AM Haven't had much bench time this week. Getting ready for the BIG BIG show in Carlisle this next week. Anyone else attending Chryslers at Carlisle? I'm studying up on this cowl steering and am not finding a whole lot on the steering knuckle setup. Does anyone know where to find information on this? 1
Spex84 Posted yesterday at 05:15 AM Posted yesterday at 05:15 AM What would you like to know? With schroeder setups oftentimes people will run the drag link from the pitman arm on the cowl to an A-shaped arm mounted to the top of the hub assembly. Google "Speedway Motors hoop style steering arm" for a clear view, or "HAMB side steering" for some shots of similar setups installed. One trick is to re-purpose A-arms from the street-roddy independent front suspension on the Revell '37 Ford Tudor as hoop style steering arms (credit to Dennis Lacy for that one!). Or here's a shot of one: Is that what you were looking for? 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted yesterday at 10:37 AM Author Posted yesterday at 10:37 AM @Spex84That is exactly what i was looking for. Thank You very much! 1
