This build I am starting is part of a Secret Santa build on another site. It is a VW Samba bus that will have a slight alternative to the usual air cooled engine. This will be a very generic, conservative build😁

I sourced the slightly upgraded power plant and chassis

The chassis is a very different wheelbase, I dissected the funny car chassis to get proper wheelbase, reinstalling differential below driver to accommodate and raise driver to be able to see out window.

I am going to have all the doors open, and hinge the body. I cut the stock bus floor to fit chassis fairly snugly. I also intend to have as much stock interior as possible to fit the theme.

Now that I have the basics of what needed to be modified for the chassis to fit, I am going to start on your basic, everyday VW bus paint job. The body has to be together for it to work out properly. After prepping the body by, removing flash, smoothing, I primed and then laid down a base of MCW bright gold metal flake and ultra silver blend

For the canopy roof, your everyday Candy blue fish scale over silver base

On to the roof, a little candy hunter green cosmic graphic over silver/ black, skull under gold peal graphics and candy tangerine for the rest of roof

Staying with your every day beater paint job, on to the body. I started with candy hunter green from MCW, blending into MCW Candy lime gold

I taped out a would be hand painted peace sign on right side and a sun on left, so that the gold/ silver blend would show through. I the made some ghost flames with some light/ dark highlights over a black metallic base, then blended MCW Candy fire red and candy tangerine to complete the 4 color candy blend

4 coats of Mr.Color GX112 UV Cut clear. This is where I am caught up. More progress to come soon

Thank you! I’m shooting for something so out there, that you would never see again. I wanted to paint a cow howling at the moon on it, but I couldn’t get permission, so I scratched it. I will have a couple surprises along the way. I’m also trying to re- hone my airbrush skills, since I got away from custom painting over 30 years ago.

Some more progress, still have some cleanup to do on rear fish scale pattern. I’ m starting to work on chassis configuration now. I had to remove a section from middle of chassis and need to relocate differential to area that the seat occupied. The seat will be located over the diff now. I will have to relocate the column, dash, shifter and chute release. There will be a bunch of fabrication to do here.
