Ben269 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Started this one a few months ago, haven't taken hardly any photos so far. I am using a newer seat, so I cut out the headrest in the cage. I also added the front radiator support with some square tubing. Looks good, but I have to relocate the top oil line on the oil cooler for it to fit. 3
Shark Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Love the earlier Monogram nascar kits. Are you building the Rudd car or something else?
Dave Van Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I built that car for my 1988 collection. Be warned kit decals are poor. I used 3 different sets to do mine.
Volzfan59 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I like what you’re doing with this kit. The Monogram Buicks are some of my favorite NASCAR kits.
Shark Posted July 23 Posted July 23 If you are going to do the Rudd car, Mike's Decals has the Powerslide sheet for that car, and I noticed it's on sale at the moment. 1
Ben269 Posted July 27 Author Posted July 27 I like these Buicks, too. I built the High Life Bobby Allison car a few years ago. I got the power slide decals, and painted the car with Tamiya Park Green. The gold section on the rear bumper is Tamiya gold, and its almost a perfect match with the decals. The gold stripes on the front were tricky, I had to cut them to angle them down, while still lining up the black trim, and I'm happy with how they turned out. 2
Ben269 Posted August 5 Author Posted August 5 I airbrushed some clear yellow on the oil pan to give it an anodized look, like a Milodon style oil pan. probably not correct for this shape of oil pan, but it was good practice, and I will use that technique on others in the future. 2
Ben269 Posted August 5 Author Posted August 5 I found this piece of tubing and it works well for the fuel overflow spout. 4
Ben269 Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 I saw this trick many years ago, in one of the magazines. Scrape the inner lip of the wheel with the back of a blade, and color it red with a permanent marker. Got most of the decals on, but my lighting wasn't good, so I'll take them again when they are all on. 2 1
Volzfan59 Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Thank you for sharing the Sharpie hack. I saw it a while back and slap forgot about it! Gonna use it the my next stock car build.
Ben269 Posted Friday at 02:59 AM Author Posted Friday at 02:59 AM Check out this aluminum foil I found. It was used to wrap a gyro I ordered for lunch the other day. I think this pattern will look good for the heat insulation at the drivers feet? I cut a piece and sprayed it with some flat clear. 1
Volzfan59 Posted Friday at 02:51 PM Posted Friday at 02:51 PM That does make for some good insulation. It’s got the quilted look too.
Ben269 Posted Friday at 11:02 PM Author Posted Friday at 11:02 PM That's what I was thinking too, the quilted look is good, but I wonder if its going to be too large of a pattern? I'll have to see when I get the seat mounted in there and the dashboard on, if it looks alright.
bandit1 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Turning out pretty cool, I to have this kit in my stash of "One of these days I'll get to it" LOL
