Monty Posted Monday at 05:36 AM Posted Monday at 05:36 AM I'm considering buying some of these for an upcoming project, and am especially intrigued by the the sets that offer a number of different wheel widths. Having never worked with resin or 3D-printed items, I'd like your best recommendations for painting them to look just like they originally came from American Racing wheels in the '70s. Initial thought: prime (?), spray with chrome, polished aluminum or stainless steel, then paint the spaces between the spokes, the recessed center, and the center cap.
stitchdup Posted Monday at 07:04 AM Posted Monday at 07:04 AM i'd spray the whole wheel in the colour of the recess, then use a small brush and a metalkote type colour to do the polished areas. you will definately need to prime and will prob have to do a second or third prime depending one how the wheel was angled during the print 3
Keef Posted Monday at 07:37 PM Posted Monday at 07:37 PM Maybe a darker gray primer then a Molotow pen or the like to do the spokes? 🤷♂️
Radretireddad Posted Monday at 08:18 PM Posted Monday at 08:18 PM I’d spray the entire wheel with testors chrome silver and then brush a light coat of Tamiya flat clear into the recesses.

A cast aluminum color, overall, then bright silver for the vanes, etc. This seems like a good place for Molotow, silver Sharpie, etc. 1
