Hi James. Check out the sticky post above: “How do I search…”.  That said, I did a search since I am thinking of building a big rig soon too. i came up with 3/8” and apparently you can trim it quite easily if it is a tad too big.

I use paper towels. Split a towel width wise and twist it into a rope. 

Works well enough. These logs are heavy, but they're keeping a bead.

No all big rig model tires are the same size. You might have to get few sizes (they are not very expensive) and experiment yourself.  Here is some additional related info:
