Brudda Posted September 21 Posted September 21 A old revell kit. Trying something different. I have alot of aircraft builders so I can get all the help I need. And boy do I need help on aircraft. 2
STU111 Posted September 21 Posted September 21 G’day Bruce, I’m an old aircraft modeller, ( before l jumped to cars ). I’m a fan of the P51, so I’m on board with this one. 👍🏻
meechum68 Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Ohh I am gonna enjoy this! Love the P-51, hot rod of the skies!
Brudda Posted September 21 Author Posted September 21 I hope I can do the p51 justice. I’m not an air craft builder. This will be my 3rd aircraft. The p51 in the background is a tamiya 1/72. The second build was a fisher Pitts bi- plane. Somehow that plane took 3rd at the Las Vegas IPMS nationals. I scribed the panel lines and sanded the wings smooth. Sanded the bomb- gas supports off and filled in the machine gun holes, and where ther 50 caliber shells eject. Fitting the two haves together, sanding them even before I glue the two halves together. I was told to do this to eliminate more work later. Here is a pic of my bi- plane. Thanks for the comments. 5
Codi Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Great subject matter Bruce.......have you ever been to the National Air & Space museum at the Dulles airport? If not, well worth the trip. cheers, tim
mustang1989 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 First of all, that Pitts Bi-Plane looks stellar Bruce. Secondly, your placing at a Nationals show speaks for itself. A big congratulations on the win there. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you'll be doing with the classic kit. I've built a couple of Monogram P-51's waaaay back when and can't wait till I get to tackle the Tamiya P-51 that I've got in the stash. Those are supposed to be an absolute dream to build.

Thank you mustang 1989. I do have a pretty good collection of p51’s from the b series in revell, to the zoukei Muira . Tamiya 1/32 and airfix1/24. Have the new 1/48 airfix one also. That kit is pretty good. I’m foiling the whole plane except the wings. They are going silver. I’m not the best at planes but I do like building them. The award for the Pitts. I was pretty surprised. 2
Brudda Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 Took me awhile to get her this far. So far she’s fitting good. 3
Brudda Posted October 27 Author Posted October 27 A lot of sanding to get things to fit. When I primed her , all of the imperfections came out. The worst one was the nose area. Had to sand to fit the prop and nose pieces. Not many parts but a little work to get things to look good. Reprime and hope to paint white soon. 2
Brudda Posted November 30 Author Posted November 30 Hello, painted her white. Took awhile . Kept finding imperfections after priming but now it’s white. Used Mr hobby white spray can. I will paint the blue and red with an airbrush. This old revell kit takes a little to get her in shape. I don’t know if it will win any contest but I’ll get it as good as I can. 4
stavanzer Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Great Work, on a "Dog's Breakfast" kit, Bruce. I cannot think of a worse P-51 kit to start with, so your work is Doubly Awesome! Keep up the good work. 1
magicmustang Posted Saturday at 03:15 AM Posted Saturday at 03:15 AM (edited) Great work so far. Just to let you know, the Miss America P-51D "as raced" had another seat and no radio equipment in the rear of the cockpit. Edited yesterday at 01:01 AM by magicmustang
Brudda Posted 15 hours ago Author Posted 15 hours ago Yes that’s great info as the kit is so generic. Took the radio out but will not add another seat. This kit is so far off and not accurate at all. The kit is not even close to the real plane. The interior of the model is so far off the real plane. But since it’s a revell kit and not a tamiya it’s going to be very generic. I should get the draw decal set, because it’s more modern , but I’m going to try to use the kit decal set. So again it’s not accurate. But I’ll try to get it the best I can. I’m going to use a blue from a Chevy truck and the red is going to be from a corvette so this will be interesting. Again not accurate. Marked the lines for masking. In pencil, Again not accurate. But I think it will be a good looking model when finished. 1
