In 1992, I made several drawings in 1/24 scale of all different Ferrari 512 S variations in order to send any of them to Mike Quarterman for his mag Motor Racing Replica News.

But I hesitated and kept them for myself. I wanted to turn the old Heller kit into the Le Mans 1970 longtail (“Coda Lunga”) version someday.

In 1995, Paul Fisher released his version of the car – an excellent resin kit. Now my plan was obsolete and I ordered one of these. I wanted to turn it into the 4th place N.A.R.T. car of Sam Posey/Ronnie Bucknum.

This is what my drawing looked like back then:

Some of you may notice the many faults and errors – 30 years later I have lots of pics on my PC and several books that I can use for reference. The decal sources were what I had at hand back then – they are obsolete now..

Helmut, you're a man of many talents!!  I have all of Mike Quarterman's publications and never realised you were a contributor.

A mate has this model unbuilt, and he never will, so I'm hoping to procure it one day.

Looking forward to your build.

Thank you, Dave ! I too have collected them from the very first to the very last issue.

I only contributed one time in the first season with an article about the Ferrari 250 SWB "Breadvan".

The 512 S longtail will be built mostly out of the box with a few modifications and - of course - the required decals.

Some pre-race pictures: The stripe is not going down onto the rear panel, but it is also not exactly centered in the middle of the roof – check it with the rear window. Also most of the decals are still not applied yet.

After the start on Saturday (headlights still with protective covers):

On Sunday (headlight protection removed):

Here are some details on the driver’s window:

This is what the final model should look like:

The first things are relocating the roof opening (= not in the middle) and making the roof bulge.

Moreover, I had to scratchbuild one tailfin which I had lost over the years...

Yes, unfortunately, the Fisher's lived in Paradise, or not, especially when wild fires are raging.

Helmut...being able to draw scale plans is quite the talent. Something I never mastered. My hats off to you.  I have that Fisher kit built if you would like pictures for reference.

Thanks, Rich - I have lots of reference material. But what about starting another topic and presenting your Fisher model on the forum so everybody can see it.

My MRRN mags have been stored away since our last move 10 years ago, but IIRC you built "CUT 7" the light-weight E-type Jag at the very beginning.
