Cults sell's a C500 file you can print yourself. it says its 14 scale but can be scalable at 1/24..The model has 3 cabins: Day CAB (Extended Version) with 1 only back glass, Day CAB (Extended Version) with 3 back glass and the cabin for the Sleepper (without rear part). has a great detailed dash. i had bough one a few years back (twin steer) from another printer but did not like the cab. i wish it had the option with a flat roof. also Gary if you ever looking for nice grip tires look up the Mack i just posted in WIP ....  https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/kenworth-c-500-scale-cab

That’s way more detailed, that would be really nice to have, wish I knew how to print or owned a printer. Thanks for that.

Need some help, way out of my knowledge zone on this build. I am thinking about a winch for behind the sleeper with a cabinet style headache rack and I think there is a winch under the front bumper on this truck . I can rebuild 8,000 or 10,000 lb winches on my Jeeps. Know nothing about these really big winches. Looking at 3D Concepts site but no idea what winch for the back behind sleeper or under the front bumper. Need some help.

The single axle, tri-drive tractor/bed trucks that I've been gathering info on often have two winches behind the cab - a main, 40 ton winch and a light duty 10 ton winch.  I have yet to find model names for the winches.  The trucks I seem to find most often didn't have a winch on the front.  Winch cable for the 40 T runs over top of the deck and over a two position, live roll, while the 10 T cable runs under the deck, out to the back -

Live roll on this truck has two positions - raised and truck can operate like a bed truck; lowered and the truck is back to being a tractor -

Head ache rack above these winches -

Winch control tower -

I think there is a lot of info to be found if you have the time to wade through a bunch of Youtube videos!

I used a 3D Concepts winch on the front bumper of my FDNY wrecker Gary

My vision for this build is not an oil field rig as most C500 serve but as an extra heavy duty, heavy haul truck pulling a 3axle lowboy with a 3 axle Jeep with a 2 axle stinger. I have wanted to scratch build this trailer for some time but wanted the perfect truck connected to it. So this is where I am going.

I actually have blueprints for this trailer/jeep and stinger. Now waiting on parts from Canada, not sure how long that will take, so back to the KW 925 to finish up.

Hey Gary

Sounds like a real cool build. Not trying to highjack your post, just something for inspiration.

Yes sir, knew you had that and I may pick your brain as I build one. Need to finish that build one of these days.

After a lot of digging, found a picture (s) of how the rear suspension and crossmembers are mounted/constructed. This frame in the picture is a double wall frame, don’t think I will attempt that.

Gary on the double wall frame its easy to do. on my C 500 i used a C channel for the inter and a I beam for the outer cutting of and sand down the two outer parts of the I beams.

What height was your outer frame? I was thinking .500 frame height.

Wasn’t sure where to post this, and wanted the guys here to know. Ron (Biggu) is in the hospital with chest pains, I know he has communicated with a couple of you guys but I been chatting with him tonight, other than the great hospital food, he seems in good spirits. Cause and treatment not identified at this time.

Wow, what a beast of truck!

This will be a beast of a build as well Gary. I’m looking forward to seeing how this project develops.

Cheers,
Wolf

This is becoming about 4 builds in one! Amazing stuff. I wouldn't know where to keep something that big. You could do be on this one forever.

0.640 (5/8") the oil field trucks i build have a large frame for weight...   .500 is that what you used on your truck.  this one i need to finish..

If you are going to fabricate the basic chassis I think double frame is an easy addition. I use the  same materials which have been mentioned but also Plastruct ABS gray channel which you can order in double length . Sometimes 15 inches crowds overall length.

Other possible reference sources , Kenworth Body Builder Manual for 2012 ,its the only one I have seen that includes C500.

If  you are building Canadian , Canadian Memo of Understanding on lengths and weights from 2024

I'm interested in your build because I want to build something similar except with the 38 inch sleeper.

Thanks
