I emailed them about it and here's their reply.

We initially wanted to do that, but we could not get that approved with snake racing as it really is a different car with a different spoiler.

That car is only available as a snap kit in 1/32. That IS a bummer.

On the positive side, the decals might be better. On the negative side, my stash kits are becoming parts donors.

The funny part here is, the new box photo (1984 Winternationals) is an early version of the Pepsi Wendy’s car that has the same spoiler as the 83 Pepsi Challenger.  Oops.  
 

The Wendy’s car spoiler was changed in after a few races in 84 which was how the model was made.
