Horrorshow Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Trying to build an old Saturday night racer using these old pictures as inspiration. 3
Horrorshow Posted October 29 Author Posted October 29 Using the AMT 55 Chevy kit. I’m going to try to beat up the body to make it look well used, then try my first attempt at weathering. I sanded the trim and drilled holes where the door handles, keyholes and trim were. I spent game four of the World Series opening up the driver’s side door, took eight innings. 1 1
Volzfan59 Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Now that was when racing was really great!!! Planning on something like myself, one of these days. I’ll be following right along with you.
Horrorshow Posted October 30 Author Posted October 30 Passenger side door only took four innings in game 5. 1
Volzfan59 Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) @Horrorshow, I get opening the truck for fuel cell access. What are your thoughts as far as opening up the doors? For race damage? I’m not being critical at all, just trying to gather ideas. Edited October 30 by Volzfan59
Horrorshow Posted October 30 Author Posted October 30 I’m going to rust out the bottom of the doors since it will be sitting in a field for 50 years, and yes, damage. I plan to reattach them slightly askew. 1 1
Volzfan59 Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Thank you for the reply Jack. This build just got even more interesting! Looking forward to the ride, I’ll just be sitting quietly in the corner watching lol.

dphipps Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Looks like a fun project. And look at the full floater diffs in those cars!

Horrorshow Posted November 11 Author Posted November 11 Snow storm up here put a halt on bodywork. Since I’m not using the interior tub, I crudely built a floor out of sheet styrene…scratch built roll cage coming next. 2
Sledsel Posted November 12 Posted November 12 This is gonna bee cool. I enjoy seeing and building the Saturday night stockers
Horrorshow Posted November 13 Author Posted November 13 (edited) Started the roll cage, used a dremel on the body and doors to simulate rust. Edited November 13 by Horrorshow Grammar
MarkJ Posted Monday at 12:01 PM Posted Monday at 12:01 PM Excellent rust simulation. Looking forward to seeing the actual rust and how you achieve it. That's one thing I cannot do is weathering, so I don't even try to.

stavanzer Posted Monday at 04:23 PM Posted Monday at 04:23 PM Ron Coon Resin's makes your Wheels. He has several different types. https://roncoon.com/wheels-tires-2/ Your work looks great! I like the effort you have put into the rust.
Horrorshow Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago Roll cage and fuel tank installed. Roll cage was scratch built with left over parts tree, lots of glue used to simulate bad welding.
