dust collectors Posted December 4 Posted December 4 (edited) With the final stages of my current build within my sights I thought I'd get a little head start on my next project. This one has been bouncing around in my head for some time and I've slowly been gathering parts. My aim is to build a mostly stock appearing pick up. I never cared for these in stepside but I have a plan to convert it to fleetside. These old Revell kits only came with the custom grill with the square headlights but I have a plan for that as well. The first thing I did was cut away the goofy fender flares. I still need to reshape the wheel openings. I also cut the hood scoop and filled the hole in the hood. I also went ahead and filled the sunroof in as well. Still unsure on motor and wheels but for now I'm using some parts box Cragar's for mock up. Might use the six cylinder from the ASA Ford Thunderbird but will cross that bridge when I get to it. Thanks for looking. Edited Monday at 03:53 PM by dust collectors 6
dust collectors Posted Friday at 02:51 PM Author Posted Friday at 02:51 PM (edited) Last night I began sorting out the bed. Starting with one from the Datsun 620 I first masked and sanded the Ford body line into the Datsun bed. I then sanded away the proud body lines and filled in the bed seams and fuel filler. I still need to flatten out the rear of the bed and also the tailgate. The bottoms of the bed sides will also need a bit of massaging. The front of the Datsun bed is molded into the cab so I'll scratch build that. The beds wheel openings will be addressed along with the cabs when the suspension and wheel base is dialed in. Thanks for looking. Edited Tuesday at 03:34 AM by dust collectors 3
dust collectors Posted Monday at 03:49 PM Author Posted Monday at 03:49 PM I was able to get more work done on the bed. Deleted the Datsun lettering and flattened out the tail gate as well as the rear of the bed sides. Also removed a 1/16" section from the rear of the bed to get to the proper length. I still need to make the section under the tailgate that will house the tail lights. Not sure where these tail lights are from but they'll pretty close to the stock Couriers. Thanks for looking. 2
dust collectors Posted Monday at 04:15 PM Author Posted Monday at 04:15 PM Pretty happy with the way the bed is coming along especially since the kit provided step side bed is pretty goofy looking. 1
dust collectors Posted Monday at 04:29 PM Author Posted Monday at 04:29 PM I was also able to make some progress on the front end a bit. I cut the goofy spoiler type deal off the front bumper and filled in the push bar mounting holes. Gutted the "custom" aspects of the grill and started to test fit the BMW PE grill. Sourced some headlight lenses from a 66 Mustang. The grill is starting to take shape. 2
Zen Posted Monday at 04:31 PM Posted Monday at 04:31 PM Looking good! That Revell step side bed is kind of generic, it's been used on several trucks, at least the fenders have. 1

espo Posted Monday at 05:53 PM Posted Monday at 05:53 PM Like how you have changed the pickup bed. I think the step side style beds in these older kits represent an aftermarket bed that was available at the time frame when these would have been new vehicles. 2
Lordmodelbuilder Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Your Courier is looking good. I started to build a 76 version out of the old Revell kit. I modified the bed parts from the AMT fleetside Courier. The interior tub & underhood firewall & inner fenders fit good too from the AMT kit. I unchopped the cab on the Revell kit,but it looks too tall now. I like that BMW grill you used. Looks great! Keep us posted! 1

Keep us posted! It is chopped isn't it?! I knew something seemed a bit off with the height of the roof. The chop looks pretty good so I'll probably leave it be for now. I like the stance on yours as well as the hood treatment.
dust collectors Posted 15 hours ago Author Posted 15 hours ago Baby Moons are looking right at home even with the jacked up stance although some polished slots would probably look more appropriate. Since it's already chopped I might have to totally lay this thing out on its rockers. Before I decide on stance I'll have to lock down some wheels. In the mean time I'll be wrapping up my Anglia build. Thanks for looking. 1
