hellonwheelz3 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Does anyone know of a model car club in the pacific Northwest? I live in Central Oregon and am interested in getting into something like this. Also, are there amy members from Oregon or Washington?
Brizio Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Sure there are some clubs. Sorry I'm new here in the NW, and proud member of the Scale Auto Builders Ass'n - NW that is in Portland, and the web site/forum is sabanw.org. Other SABA members and fantastic builders, that write here on MCM, are Fletch and Treehugger Dave.
RodneyBad Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 And I just hang out here. How Central Oregon are ya? BTW: Welcome aboard.
hellonwheelz3 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 And I just hang out here. How Central Oregon are ya? BTW: Welcome aboard. I live in Bend, Oregon. Im guessing from your reply that you are in Oregon also? correct me if I'm wrong lol
Fletch Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 There are at least 5 members of Scale Auto Builders Ass'n that belong to the MCM Forum. There are 3 or 4 Car specific clubs on the west side of the Cascades but, I am unaware of any in Central Oregon. We always have several modelers from the Bend area attend the Pacific NW NNL each year, so we know there is modeling interest there. I don't know if there is Hobby shop still open in the area, if there is you might check with them to see if there is an organized group there. The 2 largest car specific groups are SABA and a club in Eugene, Lane Auto Modelers Ass'n (LAMA). There are 3 IPMS chapters in the Willamette valley but none listed for Central Oregon. LAMA Website: http://laneautomodelers.org/index.html SABA Website: http://www.sabanw.org/ IPMS/Oregon: http://www.ipmsusa.org/ChapterDirectory/st...elect.asp?ST=OR You are certainly welcome to cross over the mountains to come and join us any 2nd Sunday you'd like. The only draw back to coming to a SABA meeting is Sept-May we meet in a hobby shop. Best of luck in your search.
Chuck Most Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 You had me going, Hellonwheels! I see "Pacific Northwest" and I think "Sasquatch"! Or, as we call hairy ape-men here in Michigan- "Residents of the village of Elsie" (Elsie claims to be the world's dairy capitol. And it understandably smells bad.) I've just got to ask- why do ya need a club? You've already got US! Oh, maybe that's why...
The Creative Explorer Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Bend is such a weird place Driving from Portland suddenly you leave the trees behind and go into the dessert, keep driving for a few hours and suddenly you are in a big town called Bend. I stayed there for a few nights, but it does have its beauty
E St. Kruiser50 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Well, everybody pretty much answered your question, so I thought I'd just post a welcome. WELCOME TO MCM!!!!!!!!!
RodneyBad Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I live in Bend, Oregon. Im guessing from your reply that you are in Oregon also? correct me if I'm wrong lol Yup. Portland. Right under my pro-file Pic. and my Full name in my Sig line Wouldn't want to forget that. Yup, been through Bend a few times too. Long Drive from Portland. But there are a Dozen Hobby shops around the Portland Area. I've seen them all. Even Salem and Corvallis today
38 Crush Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Does anyone know of a model car club in the pacific Northwest? I live in Central Oregon and am interested in getting into something like this. Also, are there amy members from Oregon or Washington? Hey Wheels, I live in Central Oregon, Bend as a matter of fact! Been on Model Cars forum for many years. I just don't post much. I like to lurk around and read everyone elses posts. There are several of us car builders here in the central oregon area. We used to have a club here but the central oregon life style got the best of most. Too many things to do here. It's not like Portland and all the concrete! Ha! Now I build for others who want models of their 1:1 cars. Myself and a few others here have been building for more than fifty years and continue to love it. 38 Crush
James W Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Just another guy from Orygun responding. Salem is just over the hill from Bend for those who don't know. I build models between bear attacks. I pick berries to stain my models different colors. That last line was for the benefit of the rest of the country who think we all live in the woods out here. Harold is the Go-to-guy in Central Oregon. His work is top notch, and you can probably get a ride into the valley for a show or two with him. Maybe GSL even. I know there was a hobby shop on or near Hwy 20 going east out of town. There are quite a few great builders in Oregon and Washington. Several have posted in reply already.
38 Crush Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Hey James! Thanks!, Hope hellonwheelz3 gets in touch. Hows it going? haven't seen you in a while. With the gas prices I don't get over to the valley as much as I use to. . Got anything going on in your neck of the woods. I haven't seen many "Sasquatchs" lately. How about you? But, when they were around they were really "Great Northwest" builders Buy the way, I know what you mean about berrypaint, whew!!! what colors!! who needs all that hightech stuff anyway 38 Crush
James W Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Harold, I'm glad the Sasquatchs have been laying low lately. Got ot the point I didn't even want ot compete at shows anymore. They took all the hardware! Things are good up and down I-5. We had a get together with Eugene club at Salem a few weeks back. Typical summer show season going on. I wish gas prices were down. Then we could see you more often. Take care.
Chuck Most Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I build models between bear attacks. I pick berries to stain my models different colors. James... that was beautiful! Strolling through the forest, searching for wildberries, wrapped from head to toe in ace bandages over all those nasty claw wounds... the mental picture is priceless! Michigans' much the same way! Fun fact: Michigan is called the Wolverine State, yet there's never been any documented evidence of any large populations of wolverines ever being here! Plenty of bears, though.
