Monty Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I saw Tonioseven's Monte Carlo and it reminded me of the '77 MC my dad had. It was silver with black half roof, red carpet and dash, white leather seats... beautiful car. I'm planning on using the Revell snap kit as a basis for a full-on model (engine, etc). Problem: I can't begin to think of a whay to make these wheels his car had. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1081394515047575179ZHTzsF Any ideas?
george 53 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Good Luck tryin ta find THEM rascals,Monty. I had those same wheels on my 75 Monte SS 454. Did you know that was just a RUBBER molding vulcanized to a steel wheel? Yep, sure was. You could actually hit it with a sledge hammer,an not hurt it!
Zoom Zoom Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Nobody makes that wheel; so you either scratchbuild, do a 3D CAD file and have it prototyped/cast, or use something "close". When I built mine, I liked the look of the AMT Corvette Mako Shark promo/snap kit wheels (the show car from the early 60's that AMT tooled up in the 90's), and used them. They give the feel of the original wheels, a similar look. I'm happy, but they aren't exact by any measure. If Revell were to reissue this kit w/the styled wheels from your car (and keep the lowrider parts), I think they'd see a rise in sales worth the investment.
