oldman23 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi gang, Maybe it's because I'm in a wheelchair but This should work for most anyone. Whenever I dropped a small part on the floor like those tiny photo etched carb linkage and such. I would slide out of my chair with my magnifying headgear and a big mag light flashlight and spend the next hour looking for the part. Well now when I drop one on the carpet I don't worry about it right away. I either grab another one or move on to something else. The reason is this When My wife vacuums my hobby room she always starts out with cleaning her vacuum cleaner first. then she vacuums the floor twice in different directions and then she uses the hose to vacuum around everything and to apply suction in those prone areas that your pretty sure the parts fell too. When she is done she pulls out an old white bed sheet and dumps the contents from the vacuum in the middle. Then her and I sit on the floor and collect all the little parts I lost earlier. Now don't be asking your wife to do it this way for you and Please make sure you don't grab a good bed sheet. The only reason my wife does it and I don't is because I can't. I'd hate to hear you where in the doghouse with your wife because you wanted her to do extra work. Then hear you're out "gunnin" for me over one of my Ideas. Hope this helps all of you find that lost treasure Ernie
dwc43 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I've got a better idea for ya. Get your wife to take a pair of old panty hose and cut the legs off. Stick them on the end of the vacuum hose and use them to suck up the little parts. No more searching through the vacuum bag or the plastic can on those bag less types.
Foxer Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 My wife might actually consider this knowing she wouldn't have to hear me or put up with my mood after a part drop into the black hole!
E St. Kruiser50 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I use my "Man-type" bar-b-que apron with velcro on the bottm, and there's some matching velcro on my model building desk. Now if I would just remember to wear it........ .
hellonwheelz3 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Hey thats a great idea! I too am in a wheelchair and constantly losing those really small parts. I'll have to use your idea!

BigGary Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) I put a hard wood floor down in my room and still loose parts but they usually have bounce to places i wouldn't have thought they would go Quick way to find parts on the floor, though may be hard from a wheelchair. Get a flashlight, turn off lights, roll flashlight on floor near where you think the part might be. Even the smallest part makes a lo-o-ong shadow. Has worked for me many times. Even works on carpet if the part is not pressed in. Gary Edited July 16, 2009 by BigGary
