Ron Hamilton Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 This car was built to represent one of the 1962 Hardtops equipped with the M-Code engine, and Kelsey Hays Wire Wheels, which were factory installed on the car. I built this one combining the excellent AMT Sports Roadster kit, the Model Car Garage Photoetch set, and the Time Machines Resin body. In building this one, I had to fabricate a rear package shelf, and procure a rear window from a derelict promo, as they were not included with the resin body, and not available from the aftermarket. As I am on a very tight budget, I painted this one with some Testors' Model Master Lacquer Paint from the spray can. The color is actually a GM color (Regal Red), but it a very close match to Ford's Rangoon Red from that era. I used most of the pieces from the Model Car Garage Photoetch Set, and Bare-Metaling this car was an absolute pain in the you know what, but it was worth it. I used to drive one of these in high school, so the car has a special place in my heart.
torinobradley Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 This is the color for these birds! Nice lookin' Bird!
randx0 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Very nice job . I always appreciate a nicely built factory stock from this era . any chance of seeing the engine?

MrObsessive Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Stunning job on that Ron!! .............And now I know the answer to something I've been wondering-----would the newer tool '62 fit under those older T-Birds? Your beautiful example says yes! I've got a '61 Promo(?) and a restorable '64 that could use this.

It does use a modified roof panel. The resin body on this one was meant to be used with the new tool kit. I want to use the chassis and running gear on a Square Bird. I have a 1960 Convertible built-up that I want to do this with. It's not in too terrible shape, but it is begging for some detail. I also have a 1966 Town Coupe promo that I want to open up, using this kit as a basis. Edited July 21, 2009 by Ron Hamilton
Ron Hamilton Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 Bautiful, simply beautiful! What makes foiling difficult on this kit? Not alot of trim to cover. With the "New and Improved" Bare Metal Foil, certain areas can be tricky. Sometimes the seemgly simple jobs can be a bear. Especially when you are old and feeble.
Harry P. Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Geez... that's a pretty upscale car for a high school kid to be driving!
Ron Hamilton Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Geez... that's a pretty upscale car for a high school kid to be driving! The one I drove, while decent, was not nowhere as nice as this one. It was Beige with a pearl white vinyl interior. 390 4-bbl V8, full power, even though half of it didn't work. It was a 13 year old car, and my Dad's project(he paid $200.00 for it in 1973). I liked driving it, as it was a smooth running car, and we were working the bugs out of it. Too bad the rust got to it, or else I would have it right now. Edited July 23, 2009 by Ron Hamilton

I do know that it works with the '66 T-Bird, as that is one of my stalled projects. And Ron, that is one killer Thunderbird. Edited July 24, 2009 by Harold
