Fletch Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) Having been a fan of Ferrari's for years, I have recently started acquiring various Ferrari kits from several different kit manufactures. The one thing that seems constant through them all is the lack of Color Code Information to be able to match Ferrari Red. So, my question is what brands of paint do you use? (I do my best to avoid Enamels) And as a follow up question what are the part or Color Code Numbers for the paints that you use? Thank you for your help. Fletch Edited July 24, 2009 by Fletch
Brendan Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 There are quite a few Ferrari Reds. It has changed throughout the years. If you're looking for the true Ferrari Red is the actual color of the Italian flag. As for paint codes, I would have to look them up. Companies I use for getting Ferrari Reds are Scale Finishes and he's on this forum. I also use MCW. He can get you the later colors. I've also used Cobra Colors but they're no longer in business. Hope this helps.
Zoom Zoom Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Your eyes perceive reds in such a way that small differences between reds aren't very noticeable, vs. blues for instance. There are slight variations in Ferrari reds through the years. The most ubiquitous red, Rosso Corsa, is very well matched by Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red or Testors Italian Red (lacquer). Nobody will really know the differences, but you can get exact matches from MCW or Scale Finishes. Ferrari reds are generally applied over pink primers. The dark "blood" red is called Rosso Barchetta. Rosso Scuderia is a newer, brighter red, almost has some flourescent qualities. The new Ferrari F1 color is extremely well represented by Tamiya TS 39 Mica Red. Ferrari yellow is very, very close to Tamiya TS 16 yellow.
ffreak Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Like Bob has said, the Tamiya TS8 is a very good match for the older cars. I also use the TS49 Tamiya for the newer road going cars. Of course all of them are over pink for primer also.
Fletch Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 Thanks Guys, the information is greatly appreciated. I have built Street rods and Hot rods for years and only recently went from noticing Ferrari's at shows and contests here in the Pacific NW to buying the Kits. I figured the Revell Ferrari kits were a good place to start to insure that I actually wanted to build them. The Ferrari corner of the garage is a little bare compared to the rest of the 600+ kits, but with the availability of the Hasegawa, Heller, Italeri, Fujimi and many others the stack of Ferrari's is growing. Thanks again for your help.
crispy Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Dave, if you want to get your feet wet in building a Ferrari kit may I suggest Fujimi's newer kits. They go together with ease and really look the part. The Revell of Germany kits are good, but a little tougher, IMO, to build up. I just think you'll have more fun with a Fujimi build versus a RoG one. I've overcome the Ferrari red problem, just paint them every other color! LOL Chris
Exotics_Builder Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Dave, Scale Finishes is offereing Ferrari Colors if you want to try him. Scale Finishes
MikeMc Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Dave....are you gonna do it in satin black with red wires???
amani Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 hello, didn't mean to bump up the old thread, but like to know where do you get the pink primer?
Brett Barrow Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 hello, didn't mean to bump up the old thread, but like to know where do you get the pink primer? Just add some of the red paint into white primer, if they are compatible paints.
