Okay folks, here's the scoop.........

I sold something on eBay just this past Sunday, the person paid via PayPal (per eBay's rules now), and the payment has yet to drop into my account. It's showing the account as "pending" or "in process".

Here's the dilemma------should I go ahead and send the item anyway or should I wait until the payment has cleared in my account before sending it off?

How long does PayPal "hold" money before releasing it to the seller? I've sold before on the 'Bay, but also remember being paid immediately the minute I noticed payment had been made.

Thanks in advance for your answers fellas............and PLEASE, don't turn this into a PayPal bashing thread or it gets the 'ol yankola! :)

Bill. it all depends on how they paid. E-check, credit card, etc...Usually it can take up 3 to 5 days sometimes a week to clear your account. Credit card are almost intsantaneous. Give paypal a call if you are unsure. For the most part in my experience they have been easy to work with. Hope that sheds some light. By all means wait till the payment clears your account and contact the buyer and let them know it will not be shipped untill payment clears your account.

Yeah it's probably an e-check. When I sold regularly on eBay I never shipped until the payment cleared Paypal unless it was something trivial like a standard-shipped $2 part. Likewise, when I had to pay Paypal by e-check I just assumed the seller wouldn't ship to me until that cleared.

PayPal balance and credit card payments are always instant, and for me the only way to shop on-line. I no longer connect my bank account to my Paypal because it makes it way to easy to over draw the account and for somebody to hack in and rob you.

I've once had somebody ship me an item before the e-check cleared, and I was puzzled, but glad the check had cleared. I would have had to send it back if there was a payment problem.

So I would wait and ship it till the e-check has cleared. I'm sure the buyer is aware of that. You might want to check his feedback to see his history.

Just in case, you might want to add a note to your listing, "Item will not ship till payment has cleared." That way, your buyer knows, and your clear.

Okay it must have been an e-check then because I just won a set of decals this morning, and PayPal shows that they've already received the payment. I paid via Visa BTW................

It's no big deal----if they happen to email me wondering where it is, I'll just tell 'em that I don't send things out 'til I get paid. They probably already know that as they had a feedback of 100+.

Yeah Mark, they have a feedback of 100% so I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem. I have something on there currently, and I should revise it like you mentioned and add that little "clause". :)

Good idea. I don't know how my name always get's mis-spelled even though it's right there at the end of each of my post. It has been requested to put your real name in your postings and yet every time somebody replies to me, I see it spelled with a K. I know it's the most common way to spell Mark, but it's not my name. My name is Marc, not Mark. Thank you! Enough of my rambling, let us know how it goes.

Not much of a seller on ebay, tho I am a buyer, I wil wait for about 5 days before I ask the seller if there is a problem, or wait till it clears my account before I ask, but as a buyer, I know most people wait till it clears, some people I deal with on a regular bases on ebay will ship the item before it clears, knowing no matter what I will take care of it, but like I said as an avid buyer I will wait for about 5 days,

Good call. Hold the item until the payment clears and is in your account. You never know if that cheque will bounce like a rubber ball. I buy/sell regularly on ebay and never send stuff out until I got the money in my hands (so to speak). Never had anybody send nasty emails while waiting for the payment to clear.

Hmmm...............you ought to hear how folks pronounce "Geary".

Hmmm....pronounced as 'Gary' (like the actor Anthony Geary) or 'Gear-y' ?

I haven't had people mispronounce my name, but a pet peeve is getting called 'Bob'.... I'm Rob or Robert, thank you, but NEVER Bob. ;)

Rob, I've had my named pronounced "Gairy" (like air) or like the name Gary.

I've gotten to the point in recent years when I've had people ask me to spell my last name over the phone, to say "G as in George, E-A-R-Y."

That way they hear the "G" separately, and I don't get mail with my name spelled "GARY" or "GRAY".

I've found folks here in the northeast say my last name correctly 99% of the time.............the ones down south? Well........... ;)

I say just like a gear in car with a "Y" on the end.........:)

I know what you mean Bill....

My name's been mis-spelled, mis-pronounced, and goofed up many times. With some many towns and cities spelled the same, ya think some people would figure it out. Glasgow.... Pronounced "glass go", I've heard it pronounced "glass gow", "glass so", "glass cow", and the ever popular, "glass co".... I feel incorporated when that happens.

The worst spelling I had ever seen, was when I was growing up in Cali. I took some film to a fotomat to be developed. I gave the girl my name and she wrote it down on the envelope with her back to me. A couple of days later I went back to get the film. The girl who was working that day asked me to spell my name, and I did. She said she couldn't find one with that spelling, but she did find one with the first name of Marshall. When I looked at the name, the original girl had spelled my name, G-e-l-a-s-k-o....

I went from being Scottish to Polish in one shot.:huh:

Hey Marc? That's not a 1/43 scale car.... It's a 1/8th.... I've seen pictures of Bill standing next to other people.... Everyone's always looking up!!!! :P

I hate receiving phone calls from people who don't know me. They pronounce my name like it's spelled Marcie. Or, they think I'm a "maam"! I hate that! If you can't pronounce my name right, or don't know that I'm a MALE! I don't want to talk to you! I usually hang up right away when they pronounce it wrong. Those that know me and are worth talking to, know me!

Do you use PayPal/E-Bay shipping? I found that they, wouldn't let me ship it thru there until the payment was cleared. I had gotten an E-Check thru PayPal from an E-Bay Auction, and I knew the person, (a regular buyer and well known in the hobby), so I thought I would be nice and just send it out), but PayPal/E-Bay shipping wouldn't let me. It seem like these E-Checks are just like real checks, and take several days to clear the system somtimes.

E-checks can take the longest to clear  .

I use PayPal and for some reason one purchase was paid with an E-check instead of the instant money transfer, and it took a week to clear.

It's like "Snail-mail" :angry:B) .

Be patient, it'll clear.
