Lyn Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 (edited) Hi Everyone! I just listed one of these on ebay and the instructions gave me a headache trying to figure it out haha. Has anyone owned one of these? I can't figure out what actually is the parts list on the instructions. Any help would be wonderful! Thank you oops Might help to tell you what it is huh? It says blueprinter stock no. 8158 grilles and engins parts pack. Edited August 17, 2009 by Lyn@MPH Model Cars
envious8420 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 heres what i could find about it. Includes 4 highly detailed engines: Chrysler 392 Hemi, Pontiac 421, Corvair 145, Chevy 283, and chrome grilles from over a dozen 50's-60's cars. which cars, i dont know?
Eshaver Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Jim , the origional intent was to buy several " Parts packs " from A M T as well as Revell . Shoot we used to scratch build or "Kit bash " pieces together in the old glue bomb daze ! The car is really a Model T Ford slightly altered for racing purposes and the tarp was outlawed in 1960 as sanctioning bodies were really getting tough on race cars then . Even though the origional parts pack you're dissussing came out about 1964 , the engines were still being used in both show and race cars. The idea was to expand yet further on the kits of the day. Lyn Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Thank you both for answering Dad was very detailed in his models, there are boxes of parts, engines, bodies, bottoms, wheels, tires and so on and so on... I guess it makes sence why he'd buy several of these. Or maybe he just wanted them LOL
torinobradley Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 They are a great source of old school engines and different bumpers & grills that you can use to customize cars with. They have cutting edge parts of the day in them like the Spalding Flamethrower Ignition and such. A great snapshot in time type-of-thing...
Chuck Most Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 In the Blueprinter reissue, It seems some of the grilles were misidentified (one of the '55 Chevy grilles is actually a '53 or '54 version) but they're very nice! The engines in this issue were not plated, like the Stevens International issue of a few years back- you know, the one that included the Allison v-12 and the T dragster body. But they're still nice, and the lack of plating actually seems to make the details a bit sharper. I just built two of the Pontiac 421s from the Blueprinter issue- one dual quads, one blown and injected, for a club project, and I'm always picking up more of them when I find them (I think I've got five or six of the Blueprinter engines/grilles sets in various levels of 'completeness'.) I only wish they'd included a Ford 427 (Cammer or no, either one's nice) but hey, Revell did a parts pack 427, so all is good! There was another AMT parts pack reissue around 1997 or so, that included the (plated) Allison motor, a plated tubeular hot rod/dragster chassis, and the Drag accessories pack, which included a TV camera but oddly enough not a Christmas tree staging light setup! Also included was a set of plated wheels, including some six-spoke Halibrands with five-spoke no-lug rears. It would be nice to see more of this stuff reissued, if not as stand-alone products, than perhaps as 'bonus' inclusions in full kits.
jbwelda Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) seems i have the unplated version sans allison engine or wheels or tv stuff! got an old original of the parts pack though! Edited August 21, 2009 by jbwelda
samdiego Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I wish I could be more help but I've got a fresh cast on one arm and I can't root through the storage just yet. I've got a few of the packs and could name them by sight if I could find them. Can you do pic of the instructions? I've heard from more than one source that in researching subjects for these kits, AMT got a group of the speed manufacturers together for one big meeting. And the story goes that it was such a good event for all parties that it eventually led to the formation of SEMA. Of course that could be the story behind Revell's parts packs and it could be totally made up. But that's what I heard.
Lyn Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 thank you everyone for answering. I read everything, blinked a few times, said hmmmm, blinked some more then realized I really should have paid way more attention to my dad when he talked about cars haha.. I have another of the packs at the house if anyone wants it. PM I'll give it to ya for what it sold for on ebay which I suppose was a fair price, i don't know because I haven't ever bought one.. Send me a line, Lyn
